Cannot remove network share fom File Explorer

"Experimenting" while trying to connect W10 computers on my Private home network. I created a share that I was not satisfied with. I UN-shared it and removed the test folder. However, that empty share folder link (W10-XXX) still appears in view with File Explorer. Attempted delete throws error. Just want to remove it for now?

Forgive me if it isn't but the attached image looks to be showing a PC on the network called W10-xxx, not a shared folder.

OldNavy, yes I rebooted several times, even took down the network and restarted.

Chandlerl: Yes you are correct, it is/was a shared folder that once I opened it, showes a link to one of my computers W10-xxx. and left it under the network folder. Do I understand why? not even close. Just want to undo it somehow. I deleted that shared (test) folder but it still remains.

You could try open ComputerManagement tool (via startmenu win10) , In this tool Click Shared Folders, and delete the Shared folder that you already deleted. Restart Windows. Now it should be gone from the network.

I agree. W10-xxx looks like a shared computer not a shared folder.

If it is a shared computer then just go into "Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings" and turn off file and printer sharing. The computer won't show up on the network anymore. That is because the network only shows computers that have shared resources.

For example the following shows two shared computers DarkMatter and EventHorizon. The shared folders are shown for each one.

MEMO99 The area you referenced, there was not an entry in that folder or subfolders?

MisterED I started by un checking automatic setup of network connected devices and that removed it. Maybe wrong but I think I just hid it rather than remove it??? Tx

UPDATE: Spoke too soon, after 10 minutes it came back, now turned everything off, waiting till morning to check again.

Is there a reason you don't want that computer to show in the network?

The first thing I do when I set up a computer is to turn on filed an printer sharing. I not only want to share my printer with all the computers but also want to share files among the computers. I have password protected sharing turned on because I don't want anyone else accessing any of the files on the other computers.

My biggest problem I have is that I have spent too much time getting all the computers to show up in the network at the same time. I think they have borked this for home computer users of Windows 10. I don't remember it being such a problem with Windows 7.

Hi Everyone, I am no expert but wondered if Option 8 in Brink's tutorial would help.

MisterED Tx for that. I just want the ability to add and remove computers/folders etc to gain the knowledge on how to do it. I have 5 computers, and can't get 2 of them to communicate let alone connect all 5. Yes way to much time spent on trying to do it, but I am retired.
