Well, 4 weeks of network bliss, then it all goes to hell in a handbag. Both laptops on my home network can no longer see each other.

I didn't notice exactly when this happened, but the only thing that has changed in the past month is that the new 2004 feature update was installed on both machines.

So, for an installation that has been working perfectly, then not, where is the best place to start to resolve this??

Does Win10 networking need to be this hard??

Can you uninstall 2004 on both systems?
You could always go for 2004 at a later date.

Go Back to the Previous Version of Windows in Windows 10

I think there is an SMB1 issue that might be causing this.

As I recall, there was a post from a week or so ago where the 2004 feature update changed the private and public network profiles. Perhaps someone remembers which post that was.

You may want to check that network discovery and file and print sharing are still enabled.

Prior to rolling-back, I definitely want to look into anything that I can do regarding settings that may have gone astray.

Thanks for your input so far.

Just to be sure that your network is still intact and functioning, try this again.

On each machine, pull up a command prompt and type ipconfig /all This will give you the IP address of that machine

On computer A, go to File Explorer and type \\ip address of computer B This should give you access to all network shares on computer B.

If this works, there is a Discovery problem to troubleshoot.

Thanks Jack. Just getting back to this. Still a problem.

I did as you asked and my laptop, that used to connect 100% fine to the other laptop on my home network prior to the last Windows update, now cannot ping the other laptop. It just sits there for a minute and then goes to the Troubleshooter, which gives the response "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (ip addy) is not responding."

Both laptops were configured (again) about a month ago with the help of those on this forum. All was just fine until that last Windows update. Now the network just doesn't work.

Any ideas of what to do next?
    Thanks in advance!!

*Update* I went back and checked all of my initial settings listed in my first post. All are set on both machines.
This is a mystery! I really don't want to roll back the OS update on both machines - just a bridge too far.
Why can't Windows networking just work?
    And then stay working!!??

Open Taskmanager, go to tab Services, right-click the service FDResPub, select Restart service. Now the Network should become visible again. Pls let me know if your problem is solved now.

This is a known issue with Windows 10.

We solved it by doing the following.

Created a batch file called FDResPub.bat (You can call it whatever you want).

Added these two lines in the batch file.

    net stop FDResPub
    net start FDResPub

Scheduled the batch file to run At system startup in Task Scheduler...on all Windows 10 systems on the LAN.

    No issues since.
