Cannot join homegroup on Windows 10

I have a new Windows 10 computer, and I'm trying to join the existing homegroup in my home (which currently includes Windows 8 laptop and Windows 7 desktop), but to no avail.
I tried to follow the instructions written by Shawn Brink in this forum:
Open File Explorer, click/tap on Homegroup in the navigation pane, click/tap on Join now (button) or Join homegroup (ribbon),
but I have NO Homegroup button/tab in my File Explorer!

Also, some other hints that I found on the web tell you to do it via Control Panel/Homegroup, but in my Control Panel, there are NO homegroup options!

    So what do I do?

OK, now I understand why there are no homegroup options in my computer, but now I need to know:
How do I make my Windows 10 computer visible to the other computers in my home (Windows 8, Windows 7)?

The tutorials on here are a good resource. Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10

Big improvement. I followed the instructions of the tutorial, and now the Windows 10 Desktop can see the Windows 8 laptop, but not VV.
    The question is, why?

Since the implementation of SMBv3, there have been big changes with how networking works with Windows 10. It now uses WS Discovery. See this for how to troubleshoot.https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...ewall-settings

Now you can re-enable SMBv1 if you wish. It is in Programs & Features > Windows Features.

SMB is enabled, from the previous tutorial.
Network Discovery is enabled, from the previous tutorial.
Network Discovery is allowed through the firewall.
Yet, Windows 8 computer can't see the Windows 10 computer.

Are you also going through the steps on the 8 computer? Also reboot your Gateway/Router.

I can have up to a dozen machines on my network with a variety of OS from XP up to W10 (I have nowhere near that many PCs, most of those are virtual machines). I've just run up half a dozen and checked what the W8.1 machine could see. It saw all bar one on the other (w10) machines, though it could connect to the 'invisible' PC by typing it's name (in the form \\name) in File Explorer.

Checking on the 'invisible' PC I found that its Function Discovery Resource Publication and Function Discovery Provider Host services were not running and were still set to manual. Setting them both to Automatic and starting them was all it took to make it visible to the W8.1 machine (after a few minutes, it takes time for these names to appear on the network once the services are stated).

Check again that all your machines have those two services running. It's all too easy to miss setting up one of the PCs (as I did).

What still puzzles me is how come the other W10 machines could see it in the network without those services running. Maybe because it had SMB1 enabled?

Yes, except for SMB which doesn't seem to exist in W8.

    They are, on both computers.
