Not being able to be pinged. Make sure the Mybook is getting the correct IP from your Gateway, which is in the same class as all other machines. Make sure that if you are using a VPN or proxy on the company laptop, that it is not blocking access to any shares on any machines as a first step in this process. Can you get to the Mybook through the web browser on other machines? If there is a proxy or VPN on the company laptop, that can cause issues, along with the company may use a GPO to block access to third party devices that are not trusted, in order to stop the spread of viri through their network from the use of untrusted storage devices.
The MyCloud (NAS) is assigned a network ip of 192.168.1.2, which is pingable from the company notebook. I have a VPN client on the notebook, but it's not normally running since I do that from one of the other Win 10 machines. Yes, I am able to access the MyCloud via browser, but I didn't see any setting there which would change the devices accessibility.
This seems to solve the problem:

Just executing the run command with target of the LAN ipa immediately creates a network node identified by the LAN ipa.
