1803 Windows cannot access, Do not have permission to access \\name.

Network Error, (Windows cannot access \\SSJP-SERVER. Do not have permission to access \\SSJP-SERVER) when using File Explorer. Church has 10 CPU’s P2P network with all computers W10 1803 17134.228 except one Windows 7. No problems before 1803. All computers get this error except one W10 computer. The Server is not used by anyone and used for the church program’s database and for all the computers to back themselves up nightly to the Server using Acronis. All the computers are accessing the database and backing themselves up with no problems. All program shortcuts with a data path to the server are working. But no new employee users can be created with shortcuts using the computer resident program and data path to the SERVER. The Server File Explorer can access every computer’s shared folders & printers. Was using Quick Access to get to computers until the fix with the 2 Function Discovery changes in Services came out. Now all cpu's show every computer under Network, File Explorer. Why this Network Error when using File Explorer with every computer except one working? Workgroups are the same with the Server and the other one that can access the Server. But others in the same Workgroup cannot access Server. All computers Network Sharing of printers, folders, etc is working. Computers started having this “no permission to access” problem at different times and now I know it was as they were updating themselves to 1803. I did Network Reset on Server and on several computers not able to access the Server pc with no success. I provide my network admin to the church and not there except for issues or changes. I have search for this fix with no success. Please Help!

Welcome to the forum. Are you using workgroups or home groups as that has been removed from 1803 so you would get problems and you have to revert to work group

Yes I was aware Home Groups was removed. Home Groups was not being used for a long time, but was used between 2 computers. One is gone and the other happens to be the one that can access the server which never had Home Group. There are several Work Group names. The one computer that is working to access the server using File Explorer is in the same Work Group name. But others with that have the same Work Group names can not access. What is strange is all the computers can access the server to do daily backup to a folder on the server. All the computers can access the server via desktop short cuts with date path to folder on the server where the central church program data is and these were all created prior to 1803. If I try now to create one I get that no permission msg. All the computers are using Norton. I am going to go turn the Norton Fire Wall off. All the sharing settings in the Network Ethernet are set properly as some windows updates change those settings at times.

    Hey PKoncz,
Couple of things to check ... If you haven't already.
    1. On the Win10 PC that is working, check Control Panel > Credentials Manager > Windows Credentials and see what/if any credentials it has for \\SSJP-SERVER ... then check the other non-working PC's and see if they have the same credentials.

    2. On the \\SSJP-SERVER check the Share & NTFS Permisisions on the shared folders . You may need to add the appropriate PC\User or you could just Add Everyone.

First of all Thank you Eagle51 !
Following up on your 2 suggestions. Go with the easy one first, #2. I created a new Test Folder weeks ago and set sharing to EVERYONE with no success but I have included the picture. #1.The Credentials Manager and everything that has to do with that is all new to me so I did not “Just Delete the one on the Server” It says it was Modified last year? We have not had any sharing issues until recently. I’m guessing removing it will allow everyone to access the Server? I have a picture of Server that says it was created on 8/2/2017 with a name associated TERMSRV/BRIDGET-HP. This computer was renamed by the business mgr to Susan-PC, on July 12, 2018. Not being familiar with Credentials area is completely confusing me. Most computers have No Windows Credentials listed, picture ParishSec, and were able to access the Server from File Explorer. The one computer that still can access the Server is Businessmgr-pc that does have Credentials listed for SSJP-SERVER, picture is attached.
Looking forward to hear your recommendations on how all these computers should be set so I can access the Server from all of the computer’s File Explorer? Hope you had an enjoyable Labor Day weekend.

If the ParishSec PC is the one NOT working then try adding the credentials for SSJP-SERVER, like on the BusinessMgr PC.

Note: You'll notice that the BusinessMgr PC has credentials it uses to access all those other PC's

The TERMSRV/BRIDGET-HP has to do with Remote Desktop and not File Sharing, so not what you want.
Note: If you find Remote Desktop isn't working and since the PC was renamed from BRIDGET-HP to Susan-PC you'll probably have to delete it and add it back with the new name. (i.e. TERMSRV/Susan-PC) .. I'd cross that bridge when you get to it :)

    Hey PKoncz,
    BTW ... On the Server
    1. On the test folder you setup ... did you set the NTFS Permissions to Everyone ?
    2. Did you check the NTFS Permissions on the shared folders ?

    Note:
    1. Folder > Properties > Security Tab
    2. You can also use Authenticated Users vs Everyone for Share & NTFS Permissions.

Arrived to change Credentials on ParishSec/Marge's computer to see if that will allow that computer to access the Server. Logged in Admin User. Was successful after having to Reset Network on the computer. I could access the Server computer but not able to run PDS Church Program. This was all under Admin User. I changed to Marge user and found out that Marge User could not access Server. With Admin not able to run PDS I did not want to change the Credentials under Marge. Went back to Admin User to test setup of a shortcut on Desktop to Server Test Folder. Shortcut had no problem and able to open Test Folder and access the pdf file. This told me that the PDS shortcut with data path to Server was not the problem. Went to C:PDSChurch folder and could see all the program files but was not able to open any folders. Had to set Permissions for the PDSChurch folder. As soon as that was changed the program worked.

So every user's Credentials on the pc on every computer has to be changed. This is a fix, but this isn't the real problem. I say this because every computer can access every other computer and the shared folders with NO Credentials. The only computer that all the computers, except one, couldn't access is the Server-pc. There must be a setting in the Server-pc that allows programs and previously created shortcuts on the network to access the Server, but will not allow any File Explorer, on any computer except one that had Credentials to access the Server-pc.

Just received a call that PDS Church under Marge User is not working. Says you may not have appropriate permission. I will have to change Permissions. Must have have set for Admin User and not EVERYONE.

Bottom line something changed with the Update on the Server-pc. Do I really have to change Permissions on every user on the pc, and 9 PCs on the network?

Side note; in the past I have found fixes using this forum. This is the 1st time I submitted a problem. I appreciate the help and I've been in computers/electronics since high school 1961, trade school, USAF, etc. Question is, is there a fee, membership, subscription? Being 72 I can't remember if I paid a fee when I joined. Thank for helping me with my volunteer work. Thanks Eagle51.

Sounds like the Server has Password Protected Sharing turned on. If it does, then each PC connecting to the Server would need the proper server credentials added to it, so you may want to turn that off. I would also check the other PCs to see if they have Password Protected Sharing on. My guess is they don't and there for no need for credentials.,

No ... You shouldn't need to change any Permissions, but if you meant credentials that would depend on the above.
