Yes, this severe problem started recently, however I did notice some minor problems earlier, but I just restarted the PC and then it was okay again.
The first thing I did this time was to try the restore points. I had 3 of them and they all failed. The process started, but never finished. I had to restart the PC to stop the loop. So I think this problem probably started to develop at an earlier date.

Could you give me your comments about Outlook being a part of the restored SW or erased during the process.

Unfortunately SR does have that reputation, even on a sound O/S. I had that problem once - then it disappeared after a few months.

If you try an in-place upgrade repair install, then the iso you use will normally be of a slightly earlier build- i.e before the recent update. All programs, data, are kept as with any 'upgrade' procedure.

That is what I'd try. Tutorial available.
Simple to start: I've often posted these steps:
    - ensure you have a current disk image, just in case.
    - ensure there's at least 30Gb free on C:
    - download ISO file (use MS media creation tool)
    - rt click the ISO file, click Mount
    - open new drive letter created
    - double click setup.exe

    Compare resetting Win 10
    Reset Windows 10
The tables at the start give the effects.
    Likewise Refresh:
    Refresh Windows 10

Thank you for that. I have to stop for today, it is now 9 pm and i started 7 am in the morning. I need to rest now and start again in the morning.

Bu if I follow your "route" what will happen with my Outlok files and folders? Outlook is not likely to work good enough which will prevent me from using a backup program as mentioned earlier.

It would be grate if we could continue this conversation tomorrow.

    Sure..

Another option you have: reverse 2 of the changes you made yourself.
    - uninstall the update
    - uninstall the banking program.

I also downloaded a new Bank Security program
Would you care to say what that is? Not Trusteer Rapport I hope..

    1. If you mean an in-place upgrade repair install.... I've answered that:
All programs, data, are kept as with any 'upgrade' procedure.
    2. The backup program I mentioned will look at the data.. Outlook- the program- is not required.

Before you do anything else, search your computer for .pst and .ost files.
    Tell us what you find.
I can guide you in using Outlook to identify .pst and .ost files but it's a bit awkward so it's easier to know the answers in advance so you merely need to check them in Outlook itself [assuming you can get it to cooperate for a few minutes].
By backing up .pst files [manually copying them from within File explorer], you can put them back into Outlook after any reinstallation of Office or Windows itself.

I have read through the thread but cannot see what version of Outlook you have.
    Please tell us.
I have Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2021 [which is like Outlook365].

    Hi Denis,
Thank you for responding to my problem. First my agology for missing information about Outlook. It is Office Home 2010.
I just started the Acer and I can still start Outlook (Word I can not start). I tried to search for the files by searching from the search window down left, but it says these files have to be search from Outlook. I don't know how. .ost files were not found at all from the same search.
It is very unkomfortable to work without a mouse. It was working when Tweaking.com set the system to safe mode during the repair process. but after restarting the system the mouse was disabled again. The USB ports are also out of order as a cable controlled mouse does not work, neither do the USB ports as a USB disk does not show on the device manager. So how can I copy the file if not to an USB? How stupid of me not to think about the need for a backup copy of the email before disaster strikes...

The easiest way to overcome the problem would probably be to do a full Windows recovery. I would loose all the other programs, but they can be reinstalled.

As you read from the thread my PC had Windows 7 factoryinstalled. I added Office Home 2010. When Windows 10 became available I upgraded to 10. But I don't know if a recovery would wipe out Outlook or if the process would "see" Outlook as a part of Windows and keep it. I read somewhere that all personal files and folders would be kept...

Looking forward to more high quality help.

    All the best,
    togel

    togel,

Ignore Outlook for a while - close it.
You can find your pst-ost files without it.

    togel said:
I tried to search for the files by searching from the search window down left, but it says these files have to be search from Outlook.
I really hope that comment is inaccurate because it makes no sense to me at all. They are just files. File explorer can search for files.

    Run File explorer,
    For each drive you have:-
Select the drive itself rather than any subfolder of it,
Type *.pst in the File explorer search box {in the upper-right area},
Copy the results into a file such as a simple text file,
One method of doing this is to select all the results then hold down the Shift key whilst you right-click & select Copy as path, then let go of everything & go to your chosen results file & paste the results.
Then type *.ost in the File explorer search & do the same with any results.

Because your Outlook 2010 is out of support [as is my Outlook 2007], I cannot find reliable explanations of where your pst-ost files are.
But make sure that you check these folders if they have not already been identified in your File explorer search.
    - C:\Documents\Outlook Files {This is, I believe, the default location used by Outlook 2010}.
    - C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook {This is where Outlook 2007 wants to create your pst file but many people change that.}

There are other Outlook configuration files worth rescuing but the pst files are by far the most important.
    - I think somebody mentioned Rules.rwz but don't worry about that. Rules are saved within the pst file.
    - If you use RSS Feeds in Outlook then there are additional configuration files to consider but I don't know if that facility was included in Outlook 2010 let alone whether you made us of it.
    - Outlook 2007 is what I know about.

Once you are armed with a list of your pst [and ost files, if there are any], I want to guide you in making a copy of them somewhere.
    - Do you have a home network you could send them across?
    - Perhaps you could still boot from a USB such as a Windows installation USB or a Macrium reflect boot USB. Do you have either of those? Do you have another computer to use to make one?
    - If you can boot from either of these USBs, you could copy the pst-ost files to them. I can explain how.

By the way, I keep referring to both pst & ost files. I do not know how you set up your email accounts in Outlook.
    - Mine are set up for POP email retrieval so I only have pst files.
    - ost files are associated with IMAP & EAC email account settings. I never use ost files because I never set my email accounts in Outlook to use IMAP or EAC email retrieval methods.
I assume you know what your email addresses are.
    - You might have set them up for POP, IMAP or EAC. We can discuss that afterwards.
    - If there are only pst files then we know that your email accounts were set up for POP.
    - If there are any ost files then we know that IMAP/EAC needs to be set up in Outlook.

    All the best,

    Hi again dalchina,
I wrote a reply to you about the Bank ID, but it disappeared when I was looking back at your earler posts. Anyway, the Bank ID is a Swedish BankID which consists of two parts - the security part issued by the security company and the Bank ID issued by the bank. Shortly before it was renewed there was a Windows update and after that it stopped working. I struggled for a long time in order to make it work again, but in the end I had to give up and start using a mobile BankID on the mobile phone. It works, but one extra device required...

I will again read your posts from yesterday and see if I have missed something and keep on working. I wanted to run a scan disk from the command promt, but I could not work out how to do that as administrator as the option was not there.,..
A warm thank you for all your help. I am sure you have more to offer if I can not resolve the problem soon.

    All the best,
    togel

    Hi again Denis,

Thank you for this long information. I just wish I had your knowledge as this is hard to take in and understand for an average user without dept knowledge about computers and Windows. Additionally, there is even a language obstackle as my Windows is Swedish and the communication is all in English.

I searced for the .pst files and I got a list of 10 items. As I can't start Word I tried wit Libre Writer which unfortunately starts but does not open completely. So I can't do anything. To stop the program loop I have to restart the PC and it takes a long time as I each time I do that get a blue screen with a message that something was wrong and it had to be restarted. I will try to do it again with Libre, but it is the same as what happened with Word before it completely refused to start 2-3 days ago...

Yes, I have a home netwok, but I dont know how to dend files to another device as you suggest.
Yes, I have an other PC witch is working good.

    All the best,
    togel

You can save the pst file paths in a text file.

Right-click in, say, your desktop then New, Text document.

We can then talk about getting a copy of it [and the pst files it lists] across your network.
