    OneNote 2016 says no internet

    Hello,

OneNote 2016 claims not to have access to the Internet.
OneNote is not rendering videos when the YouTube URL is pasted into OneNote.
It wasn't until I tried Insert > Online Video when I saw this message:

"Check your internet connection and try inserting the video again."

    OneNote 2016 says no internet-onenote2016_onlinevideo.jpg

    Steps taken to remediate:

    1. Check for updates; none.
    2. Checked Firewall; OneNote is allowed both Inbound & Outbound traffic.
    3. Run full system Disk Cleanup; NO GO
    4. Checked for OS corruption; none
    5. Restarted System; No Go
    6. Uninstalled/Installed Office; NO GO

I've seen a few threads related to this issue, but no resolutions.
I saw one mentioning an HKCU Reg Key, but that key didn't exist on my system.

Anyone else seen this or know what's causing this feature failure?

    Thanks,

That may be down to YouTubes API, they have some pretty tight security.

It turns out that this Insert Online Video feature is something M$ wants you to pay for... albeit a subscription or via stealing your personal information and $selling it. In other words, you must be logged in with a M$ account for that feature to work when using an O365 install.

Tested Office 2021 in a VM and this feature works without a M$ account/login.
