    Hyperlinks in Word not working.

I use the Word document program from Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016. My OS is Windows 10 Professional 64-bit, and I use Firefox as my browser.
I like to copy a hyperlink from the Internet onto my Word page. Normally I then use the return key, or space bar, and the hyperlink turns blue. After that I can click on it and be taken to the site I copied it from.
However, I’m now finding that this is no longer happening and I can’t make any link “live”. Could this be a problem caused by the latest Windows 10 Update, and if it is how can I fix it so my links work again?

As a workaround for the time being, are you able to select the text then right click & choose Hyperlink?
    - The address ought to be shown in the Address field already but you could try pasting it in there yourself.

    Best of luck,

It still works in my Word 2013 on the latest Win10 RTM, copied the URL for this page, pasted into Word, pressed space bar and it showed as a link then held down the Ctrl key while clicking it.

I use Word from Office 365 and require more effort to create a hot link.

For me, pasting a url into Word, it behaves as a simple line of text (even while holding the ctrl key) until I perform the followings actions.

Highlight the text (url), select the insert tab, click 'link' in the top center, then click 'insert link'.

Change the 'text to display' box, or not, click OK. Now the url is a hot link. Click on the link while holding the ctrl key and presto a new tab opens in my browser. This process works for me.

Another option, as described by Denis in post #2, highlight the url, right-click and select link. Then click on insert link on the flyout window. The next window that opens allows you the opportunity to rename the hotlink to whatever you prefer or simply click OK to leave the full url displayed.

Thanks for the replies but none seem to work.

I don't know if it shows but I tried to take and upload the printscreen of what I get when I try to turn a hyperlink into a "live" one.

It was so much easier when just doing a copy and paste and they automatically became live. Now I have to copy each one and use it in a separate browser window. So time-consuming, LOL.

    Hi kithra,

Does the version of Word you're using have the options or similar features to what I've outlined above, in post #4?

Please follow these directions to upload & post screenshots. Thanks,

Your diagram [in the docx] shows nothing selected. You've got to select the www.tenforms.com or whatever then use either of the methods given to see/set the hyperlink target address [my method in post #2 or W10 tweaker's method in post #4].

I agree that you should just post your screenshots straight here instead of pasting them into Word files. They are much clearer on their own.

Thanks for the replies and trying to help. Sorry but I'm finding all this just utterly confusing. I had a link earlier in a doc that was blue and "live". So I copied and pasted it into the end of the doc and it worked exactly as it always used to. I think the problem is to do with the Word doc itself. So I'll run a repair and see if that helps. If that doesn't work I'll get my tame computer guy to come and take a look.

    You're most welcome.

Were you able to follow the steps I listed in post #4?

Yes, I did try but it's all different in a Word Doc as I use Office and not 365. I also tried following the info about uploading screen shots and files but that didn't work either because when I tried to post the screen shot it asked where to find it and I wasn't able to save it as a file as when it was on the screen in the doc I couldn't do anything unless I closed the screen shot.
