Shouldn't MS Office still be installed after Window 8.1 to 10 upgrade?

I was fairly sure when I purchased my Asus Transformer T100 It came as a full featured PC with Office included. I'm enjoying the W10 32bit OS version 10.0.19042 build 19402 but don't know if I traded off and now lost Office. Of course Office 365 is available for a fee but I don't want to go that subscription road thingy. I'm looking into my paperwork and specs but wanted to know if anybody else has had this experience.

Yes, the T100 did come with Office pre-installed....

And yes, by default an in-place upgrade to Windows 10 should allow you to keep all user files and installed software.

    Upgrade to Windows 10

There are however a few ways that could loose the installed apps including any Microsoft apps that don't come as part of Windows.

The first most obvious one would be to click 'Change what to keep' on the screen above then select either 'Keep personal files only' or 'Nothing'.

Another less obvious way is to use the wrong language version of Windows 10 to do the upgrade, the most common mistake being to try upgrading from a UK English install of Win7/8 using the US English Win10 install media (or vice versa). If you try to do so you will find the option to keep installed apps would be greyed out. When downloading the Win10 install media, choose 'English' for the en-us media, choose 'English International' for the en-gb one.

If your upgrade to Win10 was less than 10 days ago you should still have the option to go back to your previous install of Windows. If so, then you could go back to Win8.1 with its Office still installed, then try the upgrade again.

    trembuzz,

I agree with Bree but I also suggest that, if you do get back to 8.1, that you make a system image before attempting the upgrade again.
    - This will be a valuable addition to your backups/archives because it would allow you to revert again after any further experiments you run even after the 10 days have expired.
    - When you have Windows 10 working you can make another image to preserve that condition.
    - After that you might usefully make new images regularly. I make mine monthly.

Macrium Reflect is often recommended in this forum for making system images. Other utilities are available but this one is so commonplace that you can get plenty of help for it.

It can also make bootable system images. This facility is called viBoot and it requires Win10 Pro.

After several attempts to bypass Microsoft's shameful redirection to Office 365 UPGRADE? I was able to get to Microsoft 365 (office.com) from here download microsoft office home and student 2013 - Microsoft Community Luckily I retained the product key card that came with my machine and was able to, with an MS account of course reinstall MS Office Home & Student 2013. Just a warning to anybody else trying to upgrade Windows 8 to10 even if you check "keep files and apps" older versions of Office won't be installed. If Office is integrated OEM version even Belarc Advisor doesn't show the whole product key (just the last five figures) so find the full key before you try the upgrade.
THANK YOU Bree and Try3 for your help it is much appreciated!
