You can delete files created in Word/Microsoft Office and you can Uninstall Office in Programs and Features if the option does not exist on the Start menu for it. But are you getting error messages when trying?

Download Geek Uninstaller and use that to uninstall/remove Microsoft Office
Then download and install LibreOffice (freeware) whose word processing component (LibreOffice Writer) and spreadsheet component (LibreOffice Calc) are fully compatible with MS Office created word and spreadsheet files
