My operating system is Windows 10 Pro V2004 19041.388 and I am using Microsoft 365 V2006 build 13001-20384. This strange Outlook behavior started this morning - Outlook opens for about a second and then closes. I have done the full online repair and get the same result. I am able to start Outlook in safe mode and I don't see any problems there.
Anyone have any suggestions?

It's a bad office update.
open cmd or PowerShell, run:
cd “\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun”
Add:
officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.12827.20470
Should fix until good update.
Edit, Don't use the one below. That one crashes also.
officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.13001.20266
This version also crashes
I just opened Outlook as "Administrator" fixed it , and opens ok now in normal user mode.

Must have been something on server. I did not realize it checks in even if you are not using some MS email account.
People are reporting it is fixed but did not perform any updates.
Thanks for all those replies. I just checked to see if there was a Microsoft 365 or Windows update and there were none. I tried Outlook again and it worked. I guess every time Outlook starts up, it needs some approval from Microsoft.

They fixed something server side.
The person I was helping here in Ontario had theirs working by 6:00pm local time yesterday. They did nothing to their device.
Is yours still doing the same thing. If so something else that can happen is Outlook doesn't actually closed correctly. Look through task manager and see if you see Outlook. If so end task and then try starting.
