    Outlook 2007 in Windows 10

Yes I know its old, bit like me but it does the job for the number of emails and stuff that I need however can anyone help with this issue.

I have had a few occasions when my emails simply do not send or receive and when I contact my provider, BT here in the UK they fix it straight away.

Yesterday, and for a few hours on the send and receive details screen there was only one email address showing for both send and receive, however today this has happened and its showing two email addresses both of which are the same. The email is working but I wonder if there is something fundamental that is wrong which could cause it to hiccup

    Hi there

    @JohnEdgington
sometimes the cache hoses things up

just flush the outlook cache --you don't lose anything BTW. Works for all Outlook versions 2007->2019

    1) Win+R key (get RUN)
    2) in the run dialog enter %localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook
    3) Double click RoamCache to display the files, also delete the other ones in the main folder.
    4) Delete them.

Start outlook it may appear stalled so close after 5 seconds and then start again
wait a few seconds and everything should be OK again. You'll probably have to reset your views again though.

(On outlook 2007/2010 if nervous about deleting .pst files in this folder - just save the .pst data files (shouldn't need to but for peace of mind if you need to) --usually stored in your documents/outlook folder). On IMAP you can't lose data anyway since all the emails are stored on the server --even with OUTLOOK 2007 you shouldn't be using POP3 any more).

    Cheers

Thank you. I have opened the file but there is no RoamCache in there

There would be no harm in deleting extend.dat but it would not achieve anything.

But do not delete anything else in the %localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook folder itself. They are important files.

    Ask them what they do.

    Hi there

    NOT TRUE !!!

I've probably done this stuff more times than you've had Hot Dinners.

Not wishing to get Antsy -- but have you actually attempted this yourself -- before suggesting solution is "Dangerous" -- Backup your system , have a go with it just as I've posted and if it doesn't work then restore your machine and post that I've given bad advice.

I ALWAYS test stuff out on my own machines before I suggest to other users to try them out --I don't have time for people (Not saying it's you of course but there are a load out there) who just see something written elsewhere and then post without testing themselves.

Links are important of course but testing things where possible (and in this case it is) should always be done on the posters own machines before telling other people to have a go.

For things that aren't possible then links are of course important - but on basic things like OFFICE testing is SIMPLE.

(Not trying to be angry but please give credit --I've done this sort of stuff really about a zillion times before).

Also do you actually understand what a CACHE is !!!!!!!

    Cheers

To which word or words of my post are you objecting and why?

I did not use, for example, the word "dangerous" yet you claim that I did.

Similarly, I made no comment about the cache so why you want to argue about its meaning is beyond me.

The post if you read it was to CLEAR THE OUTLOOK CACHE which was the essential point of the problem.

I think you know what I mean.

No point arguing any more with you -- you´ve probably been in I.T more years than one could say but lacking in empathy with other people' suggestions --I've met so many of that type before that it's pointless to continue.

My point was merely to say before dissing a solution HAVE YOU TRIED IT and if not why not --only takes a 30 mins (max) to save your system so if it doesn't work then just restore.

So I'm not getting involved --some people aren't worth arguing with any more

I don´t normally get angry with people where I´m from there as there aren´t enough of us in the whole country to start having problems with the rest of the planet but you´ve really got my Goat and that´s rare for me.

maybe you should change your Username to TryHarder .

    John,

Have you been able to ask BT what they do when your send/receive problem strikes? It might shed some light on the current situation.

    I can talk you through
1 some Outlook 2007 email account settings to check but I really think there will be nothing wrong there. Do you only have one email account set up in Outlook 2007 [in which case the coincidence I was imagining could not exist]?
2 repairing your pst file / ost file.
    - - If you look at Tools, Account settings, EMail tab - is this / is every email account noted as POP/SMTP or as something else?
    - - If you look at Tools, Account settings, Data files tab - do you just have the one entry there & which folder does it say it's in?
[- - I can see that @idgat has suggested compacting your pst file. So I'll be able to talk you through that as well - but I'm very keen to check its repair state first.]
3 repairing your Outlook installation by running 'Office diagnostics' - a built-in component.
I'll have to ask a few more questions but these ones will set the scene well enough.

You can always answer by posting screenshots if that suits particular aspects better -
