Default save directory for Word not be User.

I have recently completed a fresh install of Windows 10 are a SSD crash. I have also installed Office Home and Student 2019. For Windows 10 in File Explorer, I have the documents icon point to D:\Documents\. In Office I have the Word settings also point to D:\Documents\. However, in reality Word points to D:\Jefff\Documents\ with Jefff being the Windows user.

Is there a way I can get Word and ultimately Excel and PowerPoint to point to the desired D:\Documents\ without the user directory?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Jeff,

I assume you have set Word options, Save, Default local file location to D:\Documents.

Just save a document there and, afterwards, Word should no longer make any reference to D:\Jefff\Documents

Aha, yes I did have it set as above. But, yeah, after that one-time save to D:\Documents, it did the trick.

    Thanks much,
    Jeff

Now Save As does bring me to D:\Documents. However, there is another pesky issue. If I just do a Save (not Save As) I have to get by OneDrive:

Yes, following More save options does lead me to D:\Documents; however, can't it D:\Documents be the first choice?

Truth be told, I have no interest in OneDrive whatsoever. I like to get rid of it entirely from this installation. I did get it out of the Notification area.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Jeff,

I got rid of OneDrive years ago.
    - According to my notes all I had to do, just for the user account that was tied to an MSAccount, was disable it in Task manager.
    - I normally use a local user account but my notes do not include having to do anything for that.
    - I also stopped it appearing in File explorer by running a Registry edit.

    Jeff,

I found some screenshots that show that I also had to take some action in the System tray [the "Notification area" in Win10-speak] -

    - Step 1 - SysTray, right-click on OneDrive icon, select Settings
Default save directory for Word not be User.-turning-off-onedrive-1.png
    - Step 2 - clear the checkbox for starting with Windows
Default save directory for Word not be User.-turning-off-onedrive-2.png

Whilst my written notes do not refer to this action, I must have done it in order to have taken screenshots of doing so. And some of the trimmed-out bits of the screenshots prove that I was in a local account [not an MSAccount] when I did this.

    Jeff,

Then I hope that one of those tutorials will sort this out for you.

If not then I'd suggest searching the forum for something like Word Save defaults to [uninstalled] OneDrive and, if necessary, posting a separate question with that title.

    Jeff,

In my first post, the diagram has a setting I did not notice before.

    - Just above the Default local file location input box is a checkbox for Save to computer by default.
    -
Perhaps all you need to do is set that checkbox.
    - There's also one you might want to clear just one line above that - Show additional places for saving even if sign-in may be required - but I'm not sure that that entry exists any more.

    Denis,

Yeah, it was the Show additional places for saving ... that I had to uncheck. Details, details, details, eh?

    Now, it only offers D:\Documents.

    Thanks again,
