    Windows 10 Update 1803 Crashes Excel 2002

    Hello,

So frustrated here after Windows 10 Update to version 1803. I have two computers running first thing I noticed was I could not modify or change excel files. I'm using Office XP 2002. The other computer crashed completely will get to that later. So I turned on "update other Microsoft products" it wants to load SP3, it downloads 100% but gives me error "OX80096004" when it tries to install. I tried using the windows update trouble shooter it fixed something but not this. I have tried to install it at least six times, re-booted several times and it will not update - any ideas?

    Welcome to TenForums @billybronco1

You are not alone. See this thread for some possible solutions.
Excel 2002/3 crashes when typing/pasting after Windows 10 1803 update

If I were in your place (thankfully I'm not, Excel 2007 works fine in 1803) I'd subscribe to that thread (Thread tools, top right of first post) so you get a notification as more solutions are discussed.

Try downloading and installing SP3 with the standalone installer. Use the ...fullfile-enu.exe version.

...If you don't have SP3, then unfortunately Microsoft have long since removed the download from their servers. But it is still available through the archived copy of the MS download page on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine....

The smaller -client-enu version requires files from the original disks. If you don't have the original install disks any more you'll need the larger OfficeXpSp3-kb832671-fullfile-enu.exe version.

I found the archived SP3 and downloaded the full version. Most updates installed but there are a few that will not, so my excel still does not work. All I'm using is Excel & Word I did not download other office products, so I would assume the last three errors are not relevant.

    Office XP Update: KB833858 - Error 0x80096004
    Office XP Update: KB837253 - Error 0x80096004
    Security Update for PowerPoint 2002 (KB905758) - Error 0x80096004
Security Update for SharePoint Team Services (KB911701) - Error 0x80096004
    Update for Access 2002 (KB904018) - Error 0x80096004
Update for Office XP (KB913471) - Error 0x80096004

Read that other thread I gave you the link for, and follow the links it contains. I recall seeing discussions about some updates that don't install, and whether they are needed. Multiple restarts also seem to be required to get all the updates.

I don't have Office XP so I can't say if the solutions suggested so far are effective. Follow that thread and those it links to for further developments.

I'm guessing MS will have to address these issues soon, they're certainly getting a lot of heated 'feedback' about it :)

Okay nothing is working for me, this has put me over the edge. I'm moving all my files to google drive and will now use sheets. This is the start for me to completely move away from windows.

Best solution I've found is just to roll back update 1803:

    Goto Settings, Update & Security
Under Windows Update, View installed update history
    Recovery Options
(then it gets a bit more sketchy as the option is no longer there in the older version, so from memory:)
Roll back updates (Roll back to an earlier build - I can't remember exactly what it said)
....and follow prompts to return to an earlier build of Windows.
When the opportunity comes to tell MS why you're rolling back - I suggest not holding back in the comments box!

Once that's done if you wish, if you're as fed up with the bloatware/resource hog/feature breaking updates as I am, disable Win10 updates.

EDIT - Further: Amusingly rollback is a new feature incorporated into update 1803 - see "Os unistall period" - but this suggests the option to roll back is time limited, so I'd pull your finger out if you're going to do it. (That's why I can't find the exact sequence any more...)

I was actually looking for what "features 1803 brings" when I found the above. Unsuprisingly not one of them is of any use to me.

I'm now running 1709 again, and yes my machine is 64bit.

Problem is with 64-bit Win10 ver 1803. No problem with 32-bit version.

    A workaround is:
    1. Select all cells, change justification to something different.
    2. Enter you data or whatever.
    3. Select all cells, change justification back.
    4. Save

Thanks for the suggestion I since have moved on to google sheets and Docs. Its different but almost the same as word & excel, some things better some not. Its free and my stuff is in the cloud so when my PC crashes I won't loose anything.
