Great. Highly recommend you look into a product like Macrium Reflect. It is free and a life saver.
Create some recovery media by typing Recovery Drive in Cortana. You will need either an 8GB or 16 GB key. Start the process and proceed to the point where it tells you what you need. You can then cancel, buy key and restart.
Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect
I was reading your quote on Edge locking up, I had problem when browsing or on Facebook, laptop would just lock/freeze up where I had to manually shut it down. Hopefully this new update 1709 does fixes that, it seemed to always lock/freeze up when I was to call some people idiots on Facebook.
In my case, Repair provided no improvement. Reset did seem to solve the issues.
Just prepare to lose existing settings, history, etc.
Can't stress this enough, we need backups of our data and Images of our system, created regularly.
Especially when installing OS's, regardless of the vendors statement "It should be fine".
These updates are going to come at least once a year, time to implement Macrium Reflect.
After installing this update which took hours (maybe 5 hours),
I find my self with a computer that is barely working.
Using Win key + R typing WINVER tells me that I have Version 1709 OS Build 16299.19
First I can't open my start screen or power off my computer, even manually pressing the power button the computer never completely turns off, the bottom left start button does nothing. I have lots of items pinned to my taskbar. The ones NOT WORKING are EDGE, SETTINGS, MAIL APP, CALENDAR & PAINT (strange that NOTEPAD opens but I can't access PAINT from there so no screenshots). Cortana is not working either by search box or voice.
Internet Explorer, Chrome and Opera are all working. I have MBAM Pro (lifetime) and Norton Security Suite 22.11.0.41 both are working.
I can't right click on the taskbar and open the TASK MANAGER - After a long time I get the message "This operation returned because the timeout period expired".
Going into Control Panel - Recovery - Open System Restore does nothing except return the message "System Restore Could Not Open" after a very long time.
I do have the CONTROL PANEL pinned to my taskbar and it opens, I tried running the TROUBLESHOOTER for Windows Update. It seems to do nothing so I downloaded the Windows Update Diagnostic from Microsoft. It just gives me the error code 0x800705B4.
When I look at Installed Updates for today I only see - Security Update KB 4043961.
If someone can help me I will be grateful. No rush to reply I need some sleep.
or use the Advance Startup options and fallback to the previous build, if you so wish. Set connections to metered so it won't download and wait a month.
Patch Tuesday is next Tuesday.
Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10
and when you get your system back create an Image, please.
