But jokes aside I do still resent them doing that to me because all he had to do was ask for the key and see how many tims it ha been activated and common sense might have kicked in - if there is such a thing anymore.

Anyhow I downloaded that link and thought no I already have that ISO so stopped it and wrecked the 7 install so have had to start all over again - some silly old buggers never learn eh??

At least Kaspersky has always let me activate without question on clean installs and he is a Russian business man if that goes anyway to answering my rant.

With W10, MS has turned activation Topsy-turvy but Retail version is still best way to go specially now when you wouldn't have to by new one for years to come. I'm already on my third MB and W10 that I got as free upgrade from W8/8.1 which was bought at time when it was greatly discounted as an upgrade from W7. All activation went thru without a hitch and W7 that I had was a gift from local MS office for some non-IT services rendered. All together, this OS has cost me about 14 bucks all told. Office 2013 was bought for me by a customer (a print shop) to do some work for them during 6 month so that payed of handsomely too.
I may be a lousy salesman but I'm great buyer. Most companies I worked for gave me open account to buy anything for maintenance and production, saved them a lot of money.

Yep I should have in hindsight Mike registered this machine with that upgrade stuff though I think I would have only got Home not the Pro as I use Home Premium on most of the machines I've built.
No worries if that EBay deal is rubbish not much lost and I shall report to EBay if it goes south and I certainly will not be using this drive - just a spare 250GB I will do a quick 7 install then make a partition for the 10 and install on it and see what happens probably nothing but have got to have something to play with

but using them safely gives you quite a decent amount of protection

What do you think ? It's cheaper ! Problem is that MS ha stopped selling W7 and I think W8/8.1 too. To buy W7 one has to buy it from somebody MS already sold it and all obligations for it's proper function are transferred to that person/organization for installation to computer he is selling or assembling. That seller is solely responsible for it. Any beef may be between that seller and the buyer who bought from him. If for instance that disk is damaged or otherwise not usable you have to take it with seller and they can take it up with MS.

No one in their right mind would fall for that to be honest we shall see if indeed he has crawled out from under a rock because as I think I said I recognised that key as soon as I saw it and he could be Microsofts CEO's son for all I know.

OEM System builder licence terms have changed significantly since Win 7 regarding personal use.


The problem, as I see it, is that it's sold as if retail .. few read the small print.

These licences should, IMHO, be sold exclusively through the partner network.
