    New Windows 10 Setup

    Good Day All

Hope this is the right place to post this :

I have a few questions and would love different opinions in this matter :

1.When setting up a fresh Win 10 install - Do you do fresh setup ? Do you use a pre-built image or do you just use a base Win 10 image ?
2.When doing driver updates which is you preferred method ? Windows Update / Driver Updater e.g. Intel DSA or download the drivers from the manufacturers site ?
3.When someone complains their PC has become sluggish , what do you prefer to do ? ( note this is sluggish on a modern spec system )

Any answers are welcome as i want to see the opinions of other people ?

Hi. Assuming a single personal PC..
    1. Clean install
    2. Drivers as per Windows/Windows update- unless there's a very particular issue.
    3. If there is a driver issue- first place to look is the manufacturer's site.
    4. Never use driver update tools routinely.
    5. Various reasons why a PC might become sluggish from excessive resource use to insufficient disk space to a problem with disk transfer rate and more.

That said, some prefer to move an entire installation (e.g. system drive or clone thereof) to another PC.

    And another approach is to
    a. Clean install
    b. Transfer user accounts and installed programs to a new installation or new PC using a 3rd party program e.g. Laplink PC Mover.

    - There is nothing like a clean install, that is, detach any other drives leaving on only the target drive, boot from a Win 10 / Win 11 USB installation drive, delete ALL partitions on the target drive and then proceed.
    - I start with MB or OEM drivers but let WU replace them.
    - Various reasons why a PC might become sluggish. Failing drives, corrupted files, lac of maintenance etc. Also many fixes but the ultimate is a Reset or even a clean install.

If you are a company then a base image is generally the way to go due to time taken to install 10

Check free disk space, resource usage.

    Depends what's slow.

If it's internet access-related, (e.g. browser) that's another matter entirely.
