    How badly can I mess up a clean install? hp 15t-dy200 laptop

    Windows version of the windows installation media since i am doing clean install - 10.0.19041.572
    Cant log into laptop so I cant get current windows version....

    I am trying to do clean install for my laptop and i have the same problem as outlined in this post: HP 15-dy2xxx. trying clean install, doesn't detect the drive

    However, i tried following through the video that was given as the solution in that thread but I am not sure if the solution still works.

    The solution was to take a storage driver from the hp site (https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers...model/35900329) and to add that to the usb with the windows installation media but when I enter the OS version in the hp site (20H2), the storage driver (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) doesnt show up and there is only the Alcor card reader driver.

    Its only when I pick an older version of the OS on the hp site such as windows 10 64 bit that I can see the Intel rapid storage. However, I am wondering if this will cause compatibility issues and if this will break the computer in some way?

    Should I just try ISO file instead? Also my usb is FAT32.

    @redmike
    VMD was developed for XEON and as long as you don't use RAID, check your BIOS, if you can disable it. It can cause a lot of trouble in the Recovery Environment and so on. On a laptop it doesn't make sense.

    Extract the zip. When it says "Where do you want to install Winows " , click Load Drivers. Browse to the extracted folder it will recurse through the folders and find the drivers.

    Edit: sorry I just tried it but after extracting it still doesnt work as when i click on the etracted folder during load drivers it still detects no drivers. Is there another driver I could try?

    try the f6 folder

    I believe it is called f6 because in olden times pressing f6 brought up the browse for drivers dialog.

    Grab the most recent one from your hp computer page.
    "(...)windows 10 64 bit that I can see the Intel rapid storage(...)"
    Yes this one should be fine.

    I see, and this is fine even if the windows installation media I am using is 20H2? As the intel storage on hps site is for older version of windows I think.

    Just tried it and it worked fine. Thanks to everyone for the help
