HP 15-dy2xxx. trying clean install, doesn't detect the drive

Just got this (HP 15-dy2xxx) refurbished machine.

Removed Bitlocker encryption. Disabled Secure boot. Changed BIOS to boot from USB device.

Made installation drive using Media Creation Tool alone, made a ISO with MediaCreation Tool and used Rufus with Partition Scheme as MBR and GPT. But when it comes to selecting a drive to install the OS on, there is no drive.

HP 15-dy2xxx. trying clean install, doesn't detect the drive-no-drive.png

But before I reach to this step, just before it boots, I see the following sequence for a flash of a second.

HP 15-dy2xxx. trying clean install, doesn't detect the drive-boot.png

I can not make any sense out of this.

Can anyone please help me figure this out?

    Many thanks in advance.

(P.S. - The USB drive is NTFS. Should it be FAT32?)

We get a lot who make bootable media via rufus that doesnt work as you download from media creation tool it gives you the option to creat usb use that and it all way works.

You can leave secure boot on and set to boot uefi.

If the drive isnt blank delete all paritions first and leave with none

My hp has an intel disk protect ensure that is off it stops the drive being copied and secures it

To make a Win 10 USB boot able drive:

Open a CMD window as administrator and type:

    diskpart
list disk (it will list all drives. Identify the USB drive number)
select disk n (replace n by the USB drive number obtained with list disk)
    clean
    convert mbr
    create part primary
    select part 1
    format fs=fat32 quick
    assign
    active
    exit (to exit diskpart)

On Win 7 use 7Zip to extract all files and folders from the Win 7 iso file to the USB drive.
On Win 10, mount the iso file and copy all files and folders to the USB drive.

If Win 7 is installed on a GPT drive, leave as it is.
    If not:
    Reset BIOS or load defaults.
Set Disk mode to AHCI, not RAID
Select OS mode = UEFI or Select OS mode = other + UEFI (depends on BIOS).

Disable fast boot and secure boot (you can turn it on after installation)

Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.

As you have a UEFI BIOS, you should install as UEFI-GPT
During POST, press F12(?) to launch the boot menu. You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name).

Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the SSD till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.
If you don't want to use MS account, don't enable updates or connect to the internet during installation.

I actually started with the Media Creation Tool but that gave me exactly the same results. Hence I went with Rufus.

If I can't even find the disk, how do I delete the partition? (Apologies if this is a super basic question. I try not to touch this part as it always goes south at my hands.)

I got an error after this that the volume is too large. Not too sure how to proceed.

I am completely lost here and have no clue how to proceed. I am posting screenshots of the BIOS. Will appreciate it if you could tell me what I need to change.

    Appreciate all help.

To boot as UEFI your USB drive must be formatted as Fat32.
Fat32 has a file size limit of 4G.
If you have on your ISO file a \sources\install.wim that is greater than 4G you HAVEN'T downloaded using MCT

The first thing you need to do is to download a Win 10 installation iso file form MCT

If you want to use an Win10 other than 21h1, you can split the install.wim into smaller files.

As your previous install was already a UEFI-GPT you don't need to modify your BIOS

    So the issue is solved.

All it needed was to download storage drivers from the HP website, for Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver v18.0.0.1135 Rev.A, extract them in a folder. There is a folder named F6.
At a point where it fails to detect any storage, click on load driver and select that F6 folder. Once the driver loads, the first selection finds the storage device to proceed.

The following Youtube video describes it well. I hope it is allowed to post a link to an external video.

How To Fix HP Couldn't Find Storage Driver Load Error in Windows Install

Thank you everyone for your help.
