Upgrading Windows 10 to Windows 11 on Dell touchscreen laptop

I seem to have a corrupted OS and since MS has been prompting me for quite a while to upgrade, I'm considering doing that. DELL has instructions on how to upgrade in place, but I'd prefer to do a clean install if I proceed. If I download an ISO from Microsoft, will that automatically install the correct drivers for a Dell touchscreen? Dell doesn't seem to want to answer my question because the laptop is out of warranty.

An in-place upgrade to the same (or higher) version of Windows as you currently have is often recommended as a way to fix a corrupted OS. I would try that first, it may well fix your issues and save you having to reinstall you software.

But if you have decided to do a clean install anyway, then your touchscreen should get the correct drivers. I have clean installed Windows on two different Dell laptops with touchscreens, Windows 10 on a Dell Latitude E7270, and Windows 11 on a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1 convertible. In both cases their touchscreen worked from the word go.

I haven't completely ruled out an inplace upgrade. I'm considering all options and calculating how much time I want to put into this. A clean install takes much longer, so that's definitely a consideration. When you did a clean install to Windows 11, did you get the ISO from Windows or from Dell?

    Get it from here...

And here's a tutorial about getting the Windows 11 ISO...
Download Official Windows 11 ISO file from Microsoft Tutorial | Windows 11 Forum

Windows might or might not provide all the drivers you need.

So prepare for all eventualities. Backup your drivers now so that you can restore any that you need after the clean install / repair install.

And you'll find that the procedure is the same in Windows 11.

I suggest backing up your drivers after any driver update. I do.

    Best of luck,

For a clean install you may need to provide the Intel RST drivers during installation.
As Intel provides the RST drivers as a single exe file you need to extract them first so you have it as *.inf, *.cat, *.sys.

    Intel RST drivers

    Extract driver files from SetupRST.exe:
    - Open terminal in the directory with SetupRST.exe by right-clicking the directory
and selecting "Open in Terminal" or "Open PowerShell here"
    - Enter the following command:
    ./SetupRST.exe -extractdrivers SetupRST_extracted
