Need To Help My Mother Downgrade From W 11 To W 10 But I'm Not Sure...

    Good day,

My mother recently purchased a new Dell Laptop with Windows 11 pre-installed and would like to downgrade to Windows 10. I think that all I have to do is create a Windows 10 installation media on a usb and perform a clean install but I don't have a Windows 10 license. I'm not sure what to do. Below is the system info for my mother's laptop. The reason she wishes to downgrade is because she really enjoyed using 10 on another laptop she used to own. I don't want to screw up her computer so I'm hoping that you guys might be able to help me.

    Sincerely,
    Peppercrunch

I forgot add this link. It talks about downgrading before and after 10 days of purchase?

The digital licence and the keys for Windows 11 are unchanged from those for Windows 10. They will activate either of them.

Before doing a clean install you should make a system image of the PC as it is now, you may want to go back to W11 once W10 reaches EoL on 14 October 2025, or if the clean install fails.

You should also back up the drivers now, in case you need to reinstall them for Windows 10.

What I like to do is use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool with a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the Windows installation drive. Then I create a folder on the same USB flash drive called Drivers. Then use the above tutorial to backup the existing drivers from the factory Windows 11 installation to the Drivers folder.

One thing, in particular, to watch out for is that many new computers, especially laptops, require the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver to be loaded during setup in order to see the drive to install Windows to. Using the above procedure will also capture the needed IRST driver so that it can be loaded from the same USB flash drive when needed during the clean install process.

Here is where to get Microsoft's Media Creation Tool:

Also, as Bree stated, you won't need a product key, the same edition of Windows 10 will activate on that computer and you probably won't even be asked for a product key nor which edition you want to install because the product key is most likely stored in "BIOS" (it's actually UEFI firmware).
