Windows 10 Upgrade Error 0x8007000A - 0x2000D

Hello all!

I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 10 from my Windows 8.1 laptop (currently version 6.3, build 9600). I've tried several things throughout the day with little success as I keep getting stopped at "Error 0x8007000A - 0x2000D - The installation failed in the SAFE-OS phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation".

For things that I have done already:

Increased C: Drive partition to have a little more than 30 GB of free space
Run SFC on Command Prompt with no issues detected
Clean System Files and Delete Temp Files
Uninstall Antivirus and Spyware Scanners

For the actual installation, I'm running the Windows 10 upgrade that was online. It has no issues in the beginning during setup, gets to the first restart, goes to 21%, and then fails, triggering my computer to restore itself back to before the installation was started. I'm at a loss for what to do at this point and hope that others can help.

Hi, diagnosing upgrade errors is hard and typically requires lots of time, attempts, and expertise. Only a couple of members did this for people a few times.

Clues: look at setuperr.log
Get setupdiag.exe (free from MS) and run that- attempts to analyse your logs and compare vs some known cases.

Your problem could be as simple as leftovers from your various security programs (additionally run any manual uninstallers, check for leftovers in registry) to drvier migration issues to many others...

Better to zip your log files and post as attachments, but whether at this point someone appropriate has the time to spend on this may be another question.

Post a screenshot of your partitions using Minitool Partition Wizard (free).

SafeOS phase: Errors most commonly occur during this phase due to hardware issues, firmware issues, or non-microsoft disk encryption software.

Use e.g. Google - error numbers and do some reading- also search for solved threads with that error number report on tenforums.

Please post a whole window Disk Manager image of ALL your drives. Don't forget to expand the columns so we can read them. How to Post a Screenshot of Disk Management
If you have a MiniTool or AOMEI Partition use it instead or Windows disk manager.

Thanks all for the help and guidance so far. I've been away from my personal laptop for a few days and wasn't able to followup until I got back from my trip. Let me do my best to address the responses I've gotten so far:

dalchina: I spent a good chunk of time online troubleshooting through Google searches and the solutions did not work for me. I did a Setupdiag.exe for setuprr.log, however it was "unable to match to any known failure signatures". I can Zip my logs, but I'm not sure which are most helpful. The reason for the Google Drive is that some of those logs were several MB big, which are too big to attach. Not sure if a Zip would work, but I'm happy to try it if recommended. I did manual uninstalls for everything through the Program Manager and only see some trash data (logs and backups) left.

zbook: Thanks for the link to a clean install. Want to avoid that if possible as I have a lot of junk on my computer and not a lot of ways to back up that much data. I'll keep it in mind and see if I can get creative if that becomes necessary. I also found my win 8 key through some command prompt trickery so I do have that.

Megahertz: As far as I know, all Drivers are up to date and I already did a clean system update cache. I admit that I haven't tried to install from a flash drive or ISO yet, but only because I don't current;y have a flash drive that'll work for that, but I can get one in a few weeks. Here is a screenshot of my disk allocations right now:

If I need to do a clean install, I can probably figure something out for my files, but if there is any guidance outside of that, I'm happy to attempt it first.

I can only see that you don't have much free space on C:
Run disk cleanup and select all items to clean. Also delete old restore points.
The last partition (Recovery) is for factory recovery. It is useless. You can delete the partition and expand the unallocated space to D:

For the upgrade, download a Win 10 iso file using MCT , move the iso file to another drive than C:, mount the file and on the virtual drive run setup.exe.

As things can go wrong:
- Make a backup of all your data.
- Detach all other drives (E: & F:)
- Create a GenuineTicket.xml file that allows to do a Win 10 Clean Install without upgrading first
