    Issue with \windows\servicing\LCU\Package_for_rollupFix...

I have 3 large folders (each about 1.12 GB) from 3/23, 4/23 and 5/23 Windows 10 H2 64-bit monthly update. One of these folders, or a file in one of these folders (I suspect the 5/23 folder) is causing a big problem when I do backups with Macrium Reflect. Copying the folder (or files in the folder) causes backup to slow to a crawl.

Can I delete 1 (or all three) of these folders; or at least rename them and cut/paste to external drive? Or might this break my Windows installation?

    Thanks to the experts,
    Johanna

Yes, you can safely delete all the folders in LCU. I routinely do so before making my Macrium Reflect images. Doing so means the image will be smaller and faster to make. Each RollupFix folder is about 1GB.

How to clean files in C:\Windows\servicing\LCU
...no one in that thread (including me) reported any problems after just deleting the files/folders in the LCU folder.

But the fact that you have 3 rollupFix folders there indicates that you potentially have a lot more space you could clean up besides those folders in LCU.

Windows Update keeps backup copies of the three Latest Cumulative Updates in the LCU folder. If you had ever cleaned up the WinSxS Component Store then all but the most recent one would have been deleted. Cleaning the component store can potentially free up many more GB of files you don't need. My routine before making any Macrium Reflect image it to first run Disk Clean up, use it to clean up System files, and tick all the boxes to clean up everything it suggests.

Open and Use Disk Cleanup in Windows 10

Look carefully at the list of things it finds to clean up, if 'Windows Update Clean up' is in the list then it will clean up the component store for you. If it's not in the list, then you should clean up the component store yourself.

Analyze Component Store (WinSxS folder) in Windows 10

If you have never done any of the above steps before, then I would expect about 6-8 GB to be freed up. As far as Reflect is concerned the one thing you don't need to worry about cleaning up are your System Restore Points. Reflect deliberately excludes them from the image. However, if your C: drive is short on free space you could usefully clean these up too. Potentially there could be many GB of restore points.
