It didn't give me option to delete partitions.
On a clean install you are taken to a point that it ask where you want to install. If the drive is clean (no partitions) there should be only a unallocated space. If the drive still have some partitions you have to delete one by one till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.

Apparently it comes with win10 home x64 as standard and a 1tb hd. Almost certainly efi.

I would take a look at it from decent boot media. It might be the bcd store that needs fixing, which is simple enough.

You can borrow my boot media
    1904v3.iso

extract it to create booatble usb using this Usb7ice.zip

When you boot it up you will get a desktop so you will be able to see what you are doing.

You can also take screeshots of what you see and save them to usb.

Thanks,..... Although I'm not sure what I need to look for 😂

    morning all

so still not cracked it :-(

    steps taken
see attached pic for Bios revision

went into bios and set to legacy boot and disabled secure boot

restarted - chose Legacy USB and same issue with the boot loop

then went into Video Set Up and it was set to Auto

tried both options individually (see pic of settings), rebooted and same boot loop

    set video back to auto

Then I thought I have been using a HDMI to HDMI cable to view the PC let me just try VGA
so connected PC to a VGA monitor, rebooted and again same boot loop

9.5 out of 10 i see the windows splash screen for a moment and then it boot loops
once the splash screen stayed on screen and didn't change , left it for a few minutes but it didn't do anything so rebooted.

    aaaarghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

For Win 10, CSM should be set as disable.
    What is keyboard less operation?

If you didn't delete all partitions on the drive, it will install a new version of Win 10 and the old will be moved to Windows.old folder.
As you have a UEFI, the boot manager is on a EFI Fat32 partition. As you didn't clean the drive, the old boot files are still there.
In other words, it may be trying to boot the old installation.
My suggestion is to start over.
    - Use MCT to recreate a new USB win 10 boot able installation drive.
    - Load BIOS defaults.
    - Boot the installation drive as UEFI
    - On the first screen, launch a CMD window (Shift+F10) and type:
    Diskpart
list disk (it will list all drives. Identify the main drive number)
select disk n (replace n by the main drive number obtained with list disk)
    clean
    exit (to exit diskpart)

back to the installation wizard, select the clean drive and proceed.

    Thanks

I've never had the option to delete the partitions as I never get to the windows build process.

Plus I tried to build with another ssd and the same thing happens with the boot loop. On this 2nd ssd I haven't tried with csm enabled

Don't know what keyboard less operation is

Keyboard less operation was an option to prevent computer running windows NT4 to lockup at ntldr if no keyboard was connected.

Do you have another computer you could use to make the first part of the install on the SSD then swap it in the Machine and try to let it continue ?

ok unplug all disk in it connect the SSD of the sick computer and do the first part of windows installation on it with your USB drive.

At the first Windows phase reboot during install power off the machine remove the SSD and bring it back to the sick computer and try to continue the installation from there.

Make sure boot settings in computer are configured the same way SATA / UEFI etc... As the one you took to make the first part.

    So I'm clear
Take hdd out of sick pc
And connect this to other pc
    Boot from usb
    Let it load the files
When it reboots to do the next part of the install on power off pc
Connect the hdd back to original pc

Set other pc to csm and turn off secure boot

Does it matter that the 2 drives are different types?
Sick pc is a Sata drive
    Other pc has a SSD

check the bios of the PC you are going to use to do the first part of the installation leave it as is... just replicate the same configuration in the bios of the sick computer. ( we don't want to have problems with the other one. )

Boot the windows installation and proceed to do the installation. At first reboot right after files are copied. Power off (Don't let it continue on that machine) bring it to the sick computer and cross fingers.

it doesn't change anything if your current disk is and HDD or SSD as long as the SSD of the sick computer is connected "alone" on the machine you use.
