Is the report of the upgrade tool really relevant?
In some cases -- NO. I got a report indicating everything was ready, no hardware problems, no software problems -- and the upgrade tool trashed my laptop to the point I had to restore it from HP Recovery Media to get it back working. Also, unofficial word from HP reps on the HP Support Forum is that the compatibility checker is not able to handle hybrid graphics machines and some with integrated graphics, so it produces a report that says everything is OK, when it is not.

You should do a full image backup of your system with something like Macrium Reflect -- BEFORE you charge down the upgrade path. Better to be safe than sorry.

Went down the route of using the media creation tool and installing 10 that way - works perfectly so far! Thanks for all your help!
