Can't update error 0x800f0900 and can't install from .ISO 0x8007001F

    Hi all,

I've been unable to run any updates for a while now, I keep getting the following erros:
Can't update error 0x800f0900 and can't install from .ISO 0x8007001F-screenshot-2021-02-13-212247.jpg

After looking into this, I downloaded an ISO of my current Windows version (1909 build 18363) to do a repair install but this comes back with the following error:
Can't update error 0x800f0900 and can't install from .ISO 0x8007001F-screenshot-2021-02-13-205906.jpg

In Command Prompt I've run sfc /scannow and then dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and get the following result:
Can't update error 0x800f0900 and can't install from .ISO 0x8007001F-screenshot-2021-02-14-120207.jpg

I have already done a search on these forums, but if I'm honest I didn't really understand some of the solutions! (I'm a bit of a novice). Is anybody able to help please?

[1] Are you SURE you were connected to the Internet when you ran DISM?
    [2] You could try this . . .

If you want to Download and use an ISO for the Repair [ I wrote this to hopefully make it easy ], then . . .

DISM - Online RestoreHealth FAILS [ Use Source ]

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth attempts to Repair any Corrupted, Damaged, or Missing files.

However, this will NOT work if . . .

    • You are NOT connected to the Internet.
    • The Windows Update Service is NOT working correctly.

A simple solution to this is to Download an ISO [ maybe on another computer if necessary ] and use that to perform the Repair using the /Source [ the install.wim file ] Parameter, and the /LimitAcess Parameter [ it tells DISM NOT to use the Windows Update Service for Repair ].

NOTE: The install.wim can contain more than one Edition.
IMPORTANT: The ISO MUST be the SAME Version, Edition, & Language as the installed OS.

ISO download information is available if required.

IMPORTANT: In the CODE below, you will need to CHANGE the following . . .

    • # to the Mounted Drive Letter.
    • * to the Index Number of the installed OS.

[1] Elevated Command Prompt - Press the Win + X keys together > Command Prompt (Admin).

[2] Mount - Double-click the ISO to Mount it.

[3] Find Index Number - Type the following into the Elevated Command Prompt > Enter.

    Code:

    Dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:#:\Sources\install.wim

[4] Repair - Type the following into the Elevated Command Prompt > Enter.

    Code:

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:Wim:#:\Sources\install.wim:* /LimitAccess

[5] Unmount - Type the following into the Elevated Command Prompt > Enter.

    Code:

    PowerShell Dismount-DiskImage -DevicePath \\.\#:

    [6] Restart the computer.

    I hope this helps.

Many thanks for your reply Paul Black! I did as suggested but unfortunately I get the same error:
Can't update error 0x800f0900 and can't install from .ISO 0x8007001F-screenshot-2021-02-14-123957.jpg

Actually, that throws up the following errors: Can't update error 0x800f0900 and can't install from .ISO 0x8007001F-screenshot-2021-02-14-130601.jpg

Well, I thought I'd try an in-place upgrade repair install. So I downloaded the latest ISO using Heidoc iso downloader and tried to update whilst keeping files and apps. When it rebooted, it showed a message that said: installing updates 0%. Then in rebooted and showed the message "undoing changes made to your computer". It then rebooted with the "we couldn't install Windows 10" error message shown above.
So.... any ideas? Or is my OS so screwed that a new clean install is the only way?

    Hello and Welcome

Can you upload the Windows Update logs from the following path?
    C:\Windows\logs\CBS

Copy and paste the CBS folder on your desktop, zip it and then upload it on wetransfer.com and share the link here please.

I would come back then once I looked at the log files.

    Friendly greetings

    Hello again,

    Let's try the following:

Download SFCFix.exe and save this to your Desktop.
Download the file below, WeTransfer, and save this to your Desktop too.
Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
Save any open documents and close all open windows.
On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.

SFCFix will now process the script.
Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
    Then upload the SFCFix.txt.

    Friendly greetings

    Thanks

Please run: dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth in the command prompt as administrator and then upload the latest cbs log again.
