Distorted Frozen MSI Logo when trying to boot installer media

    Hello,

I am trying to install Windows 10 on my CyberPower PC desktop computer I purchased from Best Buy back in 2018. I currently use Pop!_Os as my operating system on it.

Some background info : In 2019 or so, I flashed my VBIOS so that I could Hackintosh (install Apple software on unsupported hardware). Eventually I wanted another change and installed Pop!_Os instead. I wanna say almost a year ago I began to try to install Windows on this computer, but I kept running into this problem and eventually gave up off and on.

So far to resolve my issue I have tried :
    • creating a plethora of installer USBs ( Windows Media Creation Tool, Rufus, WoeUSB..)
    • Updated my motherboard's BIOS
    • Changed my BIOS settings around some, but I am not entirely sure what they should be anyway.

When I try to boot to the installer USB, this happens once it boots :

    Specs :
    Processor : AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-Core
    Graphics: Radeon RX 580 Series
    MotherBoard : B350M Bazooka
    Chipset : AMD Ryzen SOC
    BIOS : American Megatrends Inc. , Version 1.D0 - AMD AGESA PinnaclePI-AM4 1.0.0.1a
    Graphic Interface : PCI-Express
Ethernet Adapter : Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
Wifi Chip : Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless- AC 3168
SPD Slot #2 : DDDR4 Model Manuf. : A-Data Technology DRAM Manuf. SpecTek Incorporated.

I don't have a Windows Version number, I only know that it's embedded on my motherboard.

Any advice is appreciated! I hope my question isn't redundant, I am just having a lot of issues finding results on how to solve this.

What I see in the Subject line and the description is software from MSI is being tried on a CyberPower computer, usually doesn't work between brands. Also possible the other installations have corrupted something, maybe the video adapter. Did anything work properly after the BIOS update?

The CyperPowerPC computer has an MSI motherboard (B350M Bazooka) , so it's the correct software. The CyberPowerPC website says to upgrade BIOS based on what your motherboard is . Everything (as far as I can tell) is working after the BIOS update. Also I started having this issue long before I updated the BIOS. I updated the BIOS because I was having this issue.

Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.

Are you booting the USB drive as Legacy or UEFI?

Did you checked BIOS settings to see if it is compatible with Win 10?

Let's start at the beginning. How are you creating the USB flash drive?

    1. It needs to be done on a Windows computer. Drive needs to be at least 8GB in size.
    2. The best way to do it is to use Windows Media Creation Tool and let it create the flash drive for you.

Follow this tutorial: Clean Install Windows 10

The first thing it will have you do create a bootable Windows 10 installation USB that supports UEFI mode (recommended) or Legacy BIOS (CSM).

Again, this all needs to be done on a computer running Windows 8 or 10.

Did it show up when you installed the other OS`s (I`m assuming not) or just with the windows installer ?

Have you disabled the MSI startup logo in the Bios ?

    This is the Way !!

    Hello,

I was googling and found this post. This exactly problem with this exactly distorted screen is happening to me, I use a MSI motherboard too, a MSI X370 SLI Plus. But, differently from the author, I do use Windows 10, never update the MB bios.

Yesterday, I installed a NVME ssd on my mb and was ready to install W10 on it. The problem started there. Every time that I tried to boot the bootable pendrive made with the media creation tool it chanded to that screen. I really don't know what is the problem, since I reinstalled W10 many times with the same pendrive. In fact, I tested it on my laptop and it booted with no problem.

If anyone can help me with this..

Which BIOS are you running? It seems as though the OP had success with a BIOS update. I'm running into the same issue myself right now. Same thing: FRESH install to NVMe with a bootable USB drive (FAT32, UEFI, all good) and I get the frozen screen. Going to try some fresh BIOS and remove that splash screen as recommended. You should do the same! Let us know what happens!
