Download any Windows 10 version ISO from Microsoft

I have to assume that many of you saw this over on ghacks.net, but for those who haven't here it is:

Here is how you download any Windows 10 version ISO from Microsoft - gHacks Tech News

I haven't actually used it but I did download the MCT and the created the .bat file and ran it. Great GUI and simple to use.

I am assuming this will get you the older versions with install.esd in the ISO file instead of install.wim? That's good news because most install.wim files are larger than 4 GB which makes it difficult to put in on a UEFI bootable flash drive formatted as FAT32.

I assume the same thing. I havent't read the whole tutorial that Denis referenced, but I don't think it talks about this bat file.

    The solution for >4GB install.wims is in Create Edition-specific Fat32 InstallUSB - [my post #555] - TenForumsTutorials

Yes, it will allow you to make a .esd for any version.

This batch file makes use of a command line option for the MCT called SelfHost. When you run the MCT by default it first downloads a products.cab containing a product.xml that defines the files it needs to download to make the ISO. Each version of the MCT will only work with its own products.xml, and if it downloads a different one it will tell you that you need a newer MCT.

The batch file that gHacks refers to comes from GitHub and contains links to download all previous MCTs and their appropriate products.cab. It then runs the MCT in SelfHost mode to use its own products.cab. The resulting ISO is identical to the one that would have been made when the MCT/products.cab was the latest one and will contain an install.esd.

Does using this method work despite network connections being set to metered?
    - Using MCT normally requires network connections to be unmetered
    - I appreciate that you might not have tested this aspect of it.

I have now. Yes, it seems to, though I didn't test it to completion on making a 2004 ISO with the metered connection. With a metered connection the download seems to be in small bursts....

...while unmetered it's in larger continuous bursts, so should be quicker to complete.

This one I will run to completion.

EDIT: This one I have run to completion. It created an ISO with an install.esd for build 19041.508.

    Bree,

Thanks. That gives me an alternative to using TechBench - WZT

I'll try it out in a month or so for the 20H2/2009 ISO.

LTSnow - Thanks for bringing the subject up. It's always handy to find out about alternative methods.
