    Installing windows 10

Hello... I'm new here but I have been reading some of the threads. I'm curious why do you guys recommend there a few other steps that needs to be done to install windows 10? All I do is get windows from Microsoft site on a usb stick and do a clean installment using just my windows 8 keys . With towards the hard drive I delete all the partition and recreate afterwards just install 10, that pretty it. It shows afterwards its activated, so am I doing some not right? Thanks

Are you unplugging the sata power cables from any other drives you have connected to the system before you install windows ?

Other than that, you`re doing it just fine.

But there maybe 1 thing wrong, If you`re using a hard drive to install windows on, you should buy a Samsung 860 Pro just for windows, a 256 GB SSD is more then enough.

You can go with any brand you want, I just recommend Samsung

    Welcome to the Forum.

Please edit your profile with ALL your hardware specs. It will help us to help you.

    - Once Win 10 is activated on a computer, the computer ID is stored on M$ servers so you don't need to insert any key on a new and clean install.
    - If your computer BIOS is UEFI, Windows 64 bits can be installed as Legacy - MBR or UEFI - GPT.
To install as Legacy - MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy.
To install as UEFI - GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.
    - As Addram suggested, you can have a small SSD for windows and programs and use the HDD for data only. I have 120G SSD on my desktop and laptop. With a SSD, programs opens at a blink of an eye and it boots in 25 seconds.
    - No drive is free of trouble. A backup drive is a must have with at least one disk image and week backups

If you’re not having any problems with Windows 8 & just wish to upgrade then you can download the media creation tool & upgrade to Win 10 by just running this. There’s no need to clean install. It should recognise the Win 8 key & activate.
I recommend removing any non-essential USB devices - leave mouse & keyboard - & turn off any third party antivirus software.

What's with doing GenuineTicket.xml part. I have never done a upgrade from 8 to 10 prior or ever. All I did on my custom build PC is get Windows 10 from Microsoft using the media creation tool usb flash drive, boot off it and start installment process, delete the partitions, recreate them and install Windows. When Windows ask for license keys I just enter my W8 keys and afterwards everything is good to go. I'm only using one hard drive.

That may no longer work with Windows 10 20H2. However a clean install & entering the Win 8 would be fine.
I just wanted to save you the time & trouble of reinstalling all your programs, apps & files.
