How to get windows version 2004?

    Hello friends,

this might be a very amateur question but I want to avoid losing all files and more time so here goes:

I need windows version 2004 for a certain program to work. I just upgraded to 20H2 and realized that is the wrong one. On the microsoft website I didn't get to choose the version I wanted. Now I need to manually download the 2004 version but I'm stuck even finding it. And I heard that files can't be automatically saved if you're going to an older version than the one currently used.
Basically I just need a tutorial on how to get from 20H2 to 2004.
If there is a thread on that then please refer me to it.

    Thank you!

How did you upgrade to 20H2 and what version did you upgrade from?

If it was 2004 that upgraded to 20H2 through Windows Update, then just uninstall the enablement package to go back to 2004. Look in Control Panel > Programs and Features > View installed updates.

I haven't upgraded from 2004. It was 1904 to 20H2. I used the normal upgrade tool on the microsoft website.

Then go back to the previous version if the upgrade was less than 10 days ago.

Do I still have to backup all of my files if I do that? Or does it not delete anything if I just revert to the old version?

I would backup just in case.

Better to have a backup and not need it, than to not have it...and need it.

Even if you have created new files since the upgrade, going back will not delete them. From the tutorial:

It will keep your documents, photos, and other personal files, but it can't save:

    • Any apps installed after the most recent upgrade
    • Any changes to personal settings made after the upgrade
But a backup is always a sensible idea just in case, as OldNavyGuy has said.

If you can go back to your 1904 (do you mean1903?) them you'll need a 2004 ISO. See Option Six in this tutorial for how to get older ISOs.

For a full backup you can't beat making a system image. If a system image had been made before the upgrade to 20H2 then we wouldn't be having this conversation. You could just restore the system image and get your old machine back, just as it was when the image was made.

I have just gone back to my old version (1909). So now I could basically just download the ISO file for 2004 and install it , without further headache, right?
