how do i test/verify rescue media

    Good Day All

just curious is there a way to verify (test) a macrium reflect back before you really need it ? without really doing a rescue

going from 1909 to 2004 shortly while i'm not at sea

never have had to restore before just being careful

Use the viBoot feature to boot a Reflect image to a virtual machine

You can verify the integrity of an image file:
Verifying image and backup files - KnowledgeBase v7.2 - Macrium Reflect Knowledgebase - KnowledgeBase v7.2 - Macrium Reflect Knowledgebase

    - which is not the same as ensuring restoring it accomplishes what you want..

e.g. if you image a UEFI installation of Windows, you should typically expect to image 4 partitions.

You need to spend some time reading about the viBoot feature. The VM business is taken care of for you.

    dmesal,

Ignore all references to bootable system images, viBoot, because that is only available for Windows 10 Pro - your specs clearly state that you have Home.

I don't know why you are using v6.3. If there is any significance in that, please say so in order for one of the MR users to respond.

I didn't spot the OP has the Home version. The ability to use viBoot is another good reason for upgrading to Pro.

If you really wished to use a virtual machine (think of a different Windows installation booting up within a window on your PC) with Home you could use Virtualbox (free to download and install).

I've never attempted to restore an image in such an environment, but it might work. Would just take a fair bit of time.

Checking the backup disk and verifying the image files should be adequate though-- and you could also make a second image or copy on a second disk, so you have a backup of your image files..

    A more simplistic method:

Basically just put in the CD disc/USB flash drive Rescue Media and boot up from it.
The version of Macrium on that Rescue Media will run. Then look at the contents of one of your images, maybe extract a small sample file or something.

Restore Tab > browse for your image file > Select image > Browse image > Select partition & some unused drive letter like M:
Then look at what is in M: drive which should have all the folders/files etc of that imaged partition.

A simple test but at least you know the boot Media does actually boot and it familiarises you with doing a whole image restore.

Or just run Macrium R as normal, Restore, Explore Image and browse to image file.
