I tried multiple time to upgrade from w7 both online and from a window 10 disc. Like others gets most of the way through and fails.
I created an image backup, just in case and thought about a fresh install. I extracted the windows 7 key and could use that when I install w10 on the formatted drive.
So I'm just not sure the laptop will even run w10 and don't want to waste time trying to install it if it will never work.
That will run it just fine did you remove the protection in the bios I have simliar hp and had problems there were 2 setting for intel and hp security turned them off and it fine they seem to block even cloning
Additionally HP has that driveguard driver and it doesn't work in 10 nor does there seem to be a win 10 substitute. When the update can't handle drivers it can fail.
I agree with Samuria it will run Win 10. I have three very old laptops, 13 years old, and they run 10. Two are HP.
There are many HP 250G models. I wonder which one "Ghost Rider" has?
If HP has Win10 drivers for the laptop, that's ususally a favorable sign for Win10 support. It's not an absolute necessity, though.
These should be within your BIOS.
You may see a security tab in BIOS or administration.
Also look under Boot for anything like secure boot. Since you have 7 I don't think this setting was in use.
If you want to try upgrade again review your list of programs and stuff you aren't using get rid of it. VPN's, printers, draw tools. Keep the ones you use. As well uninstall any and all AV, cleaners, privacy tools. You can install them when 10 is operational.

Administrator password
Power on password
I never set up a password
