    Ubuntu and Windows

My laptop was lent out, when I finally got it back it has Linux and Ubuntu and as far as I can tell, Windows is gone. I cant find any Windows files, none.
When I started it up and went to the start up options all that's there is Ubuntu.
Before I knew Ubuntu was on it i was going to do the out of box restore, then was goin to update to 10 from Windows site. But now?
Could someone help me with how get rid of Linux and Ubuntu and then how to get Windows on it now that it seems there is no more Win 7 backup in there.
Any help is Very appreciated. Somehow I get the feeling I'll be buying windows.

Just to be clear, if the factory restore is still available, that's what you'd get: the system as it came from the factory. Your files, additionally installed programs, etc., will be gone.

If the factory restore doesn't work, you may be able to download a Windows 7 disk image (.iso) and install from that. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...nload/windows7

It was possible in the past to install Windows 10, for free, using a Windows 10 license key. I don't know whether it remains possible. Upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 for Free

Maybe the person you loaned the laptop to was trying to do you a favor? Linux enthusiasts can be a little enthusiastic..

The restore is gone I have tried to find any Windows applications but see nothing. I don't want Ubuntu, I wanted win 7 then 10. I have absolutely no clue how to do anything and I feel like my laptop is hosed. I don't know how to even get it off, when I tried to see what was happening it only shows Ubuntu when I startup and hit the escape theses 3 Ubuntu partitions. So What do I do?

Right. Linux Ubuntu and most other distros of Linux usually reformat as other than NTFS, my Linux Mint is formatted as ext4. If Windows can't get that drive reformatted I use GPARTED to wipe out all partitions to give it a condition of as-shipped, leave it at that situation then boot the Windows install media, let Windows create and format partitions on it as needed, I don't "customize" the install.
Download the .iso for LiveCD to use in creating/burning the exact copy of the original disc, bootable.

Windows is gone means someone deleted the Windows partitions, is it the case? In Ubuntu, open the Disk app and see if the Windows partitions are still there?

Have you tried booting in the BIOS and set Windows boot loader first in the boot sequence? Is Windows there?

Looked in bios windows is gone. So I want to grab the update from win 7 to 10. Then switch the laptop so it boots from the usb that I saved the upate on and let it install? It will do everything, like make the partitions? If this is right could someone please let me know? Also in case I didn't say it, Thank You everyone for the great help.

Yes the windows installer will take care of everything for you. It will show you partitions that it can recognize. Just delete them all until you end up with a single block of space and then you can choose to install Windows on that.
