Windows 10 Crash Reset Reverted Back To Windows 8.1

I have an Asus T100 laptop which originally had Windows 8.1 installed. I went for the free upgrade to Windows 10 but after a couple of years the OS became unstable and the start button windows logo would not respond. The only recourse was a reset so now I'm back to Windows 8.1 version 6.3 (build 9600). Is there anyway to reinstall the free upgrade that was available but now is not?

You can upgrade the Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 or you can just do a clean install of Windows 10. I would recommend you save the third party drivers with the dism command:
    dism /online /export-driver /destination:D:\Drivers

D:\Drivers can be any folder on an external drive you make, just change the drive letter and folder name to what you want.

Windows 10 now too big for my puny 32Gb hard drive

When I use the download tool to upgrade it says I only need 8Gbs for Windows 10 but the install just keeps failing. I see now that 16Gbs is the microsoft page requirement. Is this how much the os has bloated over the past few years? Wow! I suppose I could save my product key and wipe the drive but I'm not sure that would work. Any ideas? I do have a 64 Gb added drive that I could use for the os.

It should work. A machine built for Windows 8/8.1 should have a W8/8.1 key embedded in its firmware, you can check that this is the case with ShowKeyPlus.

A clean install of Windows 10 should read this key from the PC and use it to both choose the edition to install and activate it. You know it's working because when you boot from the install media to do the clean install it will skip asking you for a key at Step 8 in this tutorial and go straight to Step 10.

    No Joy Yet

I haven't tried to clean install just yet as I have a fear of losing windows 8.1 and the machine works ok with that OS. From what I've read on https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/...s-10-reinstall I should be creating the install media rather trying to upgrade (a la 2015-2016 automatic software that came with the windows update app). I've created the install media on usb and now I'm just making sure that if I do have to revert to 8.1 it'll be available to me. I saved my 8.1 product key so as long as I can download windows 8.1 I'll jump off that cliff. When I land I'll be sure to mark this thread solved!

You shouldn't need to save the W8.1 key if it is embedded in your bios. You can check that it is with ShowKeyPlus.

You can download a W8.1 ISO from Microsoft here: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows8ISO

You can make a bootable USB from that ISO with this tutorial, I'd use Option Four.

Or you can use Macrium Macrium Reflect Free to make an image of the tablet which can be restored later, if needed. Also, I believe the Atom processor in this tablet is only supported up to version 1809 of Windows 10.

I understand this model has an Intel Atom Bay Trail processor. As far as I know, it's only the Clover Trail Atoms that are no longer supported. I have a netbook with a Cedar Trail Atom running 1909.

    Atom Z3740

This is the only info I have for my processor. Atom Z3740 1.33 GHz so I'm sure it's Bay trail trail but I don't see it here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...r-requirements. I did have windows 10 running but the start button froze and I did a reset but mistakenly did a factory instead of widows 10 reset! That's what started my problem. I think I have the right upgrade media on usb at this point so I'll take the leap when my trepidation subsides. lol
    Cheers,
