I'm replacing (trying) Chrome OS on Chromebook w/Windows 10

Note: I need to do a couple of things away from my puter, but I will be back. It's been so great meeting some people already this a.m.!

I've listed as much info as I can on my profile, but chromebook 3, I could not find the motherboard info, or much of the other info on your list.

I listed my PC info, Windows 10, that's a breeze, and one reason I want to get rid of Chrome OS, without getting rid of the tablet, and spending more on a Windows tablet.

So I've been using your tutorial which I believe is absolutely trustworthy but on my end, I continually ran into a roadblocks (see attached photo please). I think I'll start from scratch because it's overwhelming to explain all I've tried.

First, I'll just ask if I will be able to replace Chrome OS with Windows 10?

Second, where can I download what I need to make a bootable USB Device (I have a thumb drive, and an SD Card)?

Here is the snip I took of the error message I got each of the 3 times I failed to create the tool. No issue downloading the Media Tool exe file, just went all the way to 100% and then gave the error below. Thanks in advance for any help:

Far as you and the MCT, this is an excerpt from the article:

"And you’ll need a PC running Windows to create the USB installation media for your Chromebook."

Others may well have simpler methods, or have successfully done it. This is just for starters.

Thank you tomcat, I think I have all the proper requirements, that is what is stumping me most. There seems to be no answer in my search for that particular error message. If I knew why I can't install the MCT, that would save me a lot of further "fails to install" I think.

I'll keep searching, and keep my eyes on the forum here, and my alerts for possible "fixes" for me :)

I'm a Windows Gal for sure, especially after buying the CB because my sis got one for Christmas and she is helpless pretty much, when it comes to anything tekkie. Long story, but her kids thought they were giving her a good thing. And to some, to be fair I think a CB can be a good thing, just not for me

I've found a lot of those "gotchas" already, but I'm a diehard about giving up. But I will just before the edge

Not quite the same error code, but it may be the same cause. The error 0x80042405 - 0xa001a is usually due to the USB you asked the MCT to use having a GPT partition layout, the MCT expects it to be an MBR partition and cannot cope with GPT. The fix is to first convert the USB to MBR using DISKPART or MiniTool Partition Wizard.

After failure, the USB is left 'unalocated'. You can create a new simple volume using Disk Management to make it accessible again but, critically, its is STILL using a gpt partition layout. Only DISKPART or a tool like MiniTool Partition Wizard can make it MBR again.

Hi Bree, I don't know what that last line means "..assign drive letter back to dynamic from static." Is that something that will show up in the Command Prompt? As a choice I mean?

Ok, this is bringing back the memories now. I did work with the diskpart, and what stopped me was I could not get an ISO file downloaded to my PC. Here is the link and instruction on doing that. Download Windows 10 ISO File

My Flash Drive isn't even showing up now in Disk Management Tom. I tried it in both "front" USBs. I think I blew it up. I have an SD Card but I don't know. I'll come back after I take a break. It will be easier to buy a new tablet after all I am thinking
