I am locked out after upgrade kbxxxxx903

I am so screwed....did the latest cum update on 1903 (a kb that ends in 903) and after the restart, the pretty picture came up with the time. I wiggled the mouse to bring up the PIN entry dialog and the pretty picture blurred and that was all she wrote. After three days of trying numerous methods on this forum, none worked. Go to advanced options or safe mode? You can't do it any longer...no f8. I've resorted to trying to get the windows 10 installation distribution downloaded and burned to a DVD on my laptop with Linux Mint (installed and working in less time than any windows based attempt) but it wont fit on a standard dvd (too large by 200mb.) Tried to use dual layered dvd on my stuck w10 desktop machine by installing dual boot Linux Mint....dvd not really DL capable. Next, create a gparted partition on a 16 giB SD formatted fat32. Copied the files from the windows iso. They fit. They have all the right files to be bootable. Partition flag set to "boot". Cold booted to f2 to set the precedence to boot off USB storage. Rebooted. No luck. I've tried various combinations of uefi and legacy bios, secure and non secure. All attempts booted to HDD, the lowest order of boot precedence, which implies something wrong with my install chip boot setup. I even tried using an ntfs formatted version in case one of the file on the windows iso is over 4 giB.

Does anyone have an iso of a simple way to cold boot into windows advanced options?

Windows 10 1903 kbxxxxx903 has been an apocalypse for me. Glad I'm learning a lot about Linux Mint.

Welcome to the forum. You cant just copy the files from an ISO it a disk image goto https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/soft...load/windows10 download the ISO and at the end it gives you an option to write to usb which will then work.

When you get to the login screen if you press cntrl alt del does that bring up login

    That would be...
    Cumulative Update KB4505903 Windows 10 v1903 build 18362.267 - July 26

    Installed without issue for me.

Options Two, Four, Five and Six in this tutorial should work for you.

Thankfully I got to advanced options via the start/stop/start/stop/start method. Ultimately I got to choose uninstalling recent updates. I then had to choose between feature updates and quality updates. I'm hoping kbxxxxx903 is a quality update because that's what I picked. Wish me luck. And thanks for helping find that one break I needed.

It is. Cumulative Updates are always classed as 'Quality Updates'. Good luck!

Well, its Gilligan calling in from his three-hour tour....when I did the remove quality update and rebooted, it reinstalled the update just as broke as the first time. Now I'm doing a system restore to about 20 days ago. We'll see if that works, little buddy (the Gilligan thing).

    - - - Updated - - -

Well, its Gilligan again....system restore was to a date 10 days before the release of the aforementioned cum update that caused my problem. System restore said: AOK restore done successfully. Reboot. Same problem.

Chapter two of my saga, then. My issue is that when I start Windows, it displays the beautiful startup screen picture, and the great big time and date in the lower left corner. As far back as I've had Windows 10, I'd wiggle the cursor, date/time slide off the top of the screen and a dialog box to enter my PIN appears. Instead of the dialog box appearing, the pretty picture goes all blurry and all I can access are: wifi, accessibility options and power choices (restart, shutdown, sleep). Accessibility only results in lock up. Network connex can be turned on or off. Never can I get in. And now it would be original 1903 windows 10 due to the restore.

Suggestions, keeping in mind I still can't log in to w10?

    TIA.

Since you have backup image(s), follow this tutorial: Clean Install Windows 10.

You can restore you data from your backup once the install completes. You'll have to reinstall all software.
