Windows 7 Ultimate To Windows 10 Pro?

I used a Windows 7 Ultimate key to upgrade my Windows 10, and it says Pro, not Enterprise.
Ultimate is a higher version than Enterprise, I'm wondering why it went to Pro instead.

Can one upgrade to Windows 10 Enterprise from any Windows 7 key?

The free upgarde when it was offered only allowed for upgrades to Home and Pro. Enterprise is not a Consumer Edition, its a Corporate Edition and requires special licensing. Its normally volume licensed by a corporation.

That is the correct upgrade from W7 Ultimate.

this link is to the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, the current version of that page does not seem to be available (or is corrupt) from MS (except, strangely, for the the Icelandic version of this page which still works).

Windows 10 Enterprise is not made available to home users. Like Windows 7 Enterprise it is only available by volume licence for business users.
Windows 7 Ultimate contains the same features as Windows 7 Enterprise, but unlike the Enterprise edition, it was available to home users on an individual license basis.

No, only business customers with licences for W7 Enterprise or W8 Enterprise are eligible for an upgrade to W10 Enterprise.

I think the W7 W8 Enterprise upgarde to 10 Enterprise is the result of a company having a Software Assurance agreement with Microsoft as part of thier volume licensing plan. "I think" thats how it goes. Its not part of the free upgarde deal, they get it anyway as part of the Software Assurance package they are already paying for. I'm far from being an expert on this stuff though. Wouldn't be the first time I got it wrong.

Ultimate was not a higher version than Enterprise -- it just had media stuff...

To upgrade to Win 10 Enterprise from Win 7 you will need a Win 7 Enterprise key ( I don't recall those being retail)

There were no Retail keys for any Enterprise version on TechNet or MSDN, as far as I can remember. Just MAK.

Windows 10 Digital Licenses etc throw a wrench into things IMHO. I haven't seen any true Retail keys for Enterprise but my Windows 10 MAK keys get a DL? The only exception I have found so far is Enterprise LTSB. It shows the PID and the partial product code.
