I have both Macrium and Mini partition Wizard. Which is easier to use for cloning the 2 partitions -- system and C ?

Maybe I am overthinking this .

Is the format of a new SSD formatted NTFS by default ?

Would the cloning sw automatically make the SSD Partition GPT?

Would the cloning sw copy the UEFI partition with the correct format on the SSD ?

Actually, you make a good point about MBR v. GPT. With the SSD connected either to a SATA port, or via a SATA to USB adapter, run MiniTool Partition Wizard. In MiniTool Partition Wizard, right click on the disk itself and select convert MBR to GPT. You do NOT need to create any partitions on the SSD. Then click apply.

After you convert the blank SSD to GPT, then either use MiniTool Partition Wizard to copy or Macrium Reflect to clone the EFI System and C: drive partitions from the old drive to the new drive. They will copy over in their existing formats, EFI System will be FAT32 and C: drive will be NTFS.

I am 99% certain you are going to have to fix the boot files in the EFI System partition on the new SSD to point to the C: drive on the new SSD. The easiest way to do that is to boot the computer from a Macrium Reflect rescue USB flash drive (or Kyhi's recovery tools on a USB flash drive), and in Macrium Reflect, under the restore menu is a utility to fix Windows boot problems.

Thanks for the heads up re fixing boot files in EFI after the clone/copy action.

Btw in Mini tool partition wizard screen there is also a 128mb empty partition reserved for EFI . Do I need to clone that as well ?

After I checked mini partition wizard again I realized that I have to copy each partition individually and that each copy operation will occupy the whole SSD volume , so I should use the copy with resize option for the EFI and the 128Mb reserved space . Then allow the C partition to occupy the whole space.

Another option I was thinking about is to first rearrange the partitions in the HDD to be exactly like in the SSD. ie move the files in partitions F&G to an external backup HDD. Then delete all unnecessary partitions including F&G in the original HDD leaving only EFI System ,EFI reservation and C: Then check that everything is working with the HDD . Now prepare the SSD ( Make GPT) and clone the rearranged HDD to SSD . Would this be safer ? Obviously I would make a full image of the HDD with Macrium, before I mess around with it.

2. I would copy only the 2 partitions I mentioned before, and yes, resize them in the process. Make sure you resize the EFI system partition to 100 MB and NOT GB!
3. I would not bother with rearranging the HDD before copying the needed partitions from the HDD.

The other option a lot of people do is they will actually do a clean install of Windows 10 to the new SSD. That will get all the partitions set up the way Windows default installations are. Then they just copy only the C: drive partition from the old HDD right over the top of the new C: drive partition created on the SSD. Then, I believe, you still have to run the utility to fix the boot files in the EFI system partition, but not sure, you might not have to.

LOL ! Good reminder re the size of the efi partition !

I think the second method will probably result in having the boot file fixed also . Actually the best solution is to do a clean installation but so much effort in reinstalling all the programs.

BTW how to use the Kyhi's tools ?
