    0xC1900101-0x3000D After install failed


    After 4 1/2 hours with Microsoft support I continue to get the above error code after rebooting and installation of windows 10 upgrade from windows 7. Windows iso is saved to a DVD but once again my machine is left at Windows 7 after many tries and failures by both myself, A level one technician and a level two technician at Microsoft support. They concluded that my graphics card was the culprit. Even though that card was disabled and just a generic driver was used. I am Being advised to replace a rather expensive graphic card.

    Hi, could you please complete your system specs? (See mine for example- there's a Tutorial if needed).

    Have you checked the manufacturer's site to see if there is a Win 10 driver?
    Have you searched to see if your experience is one others have had? E.g.
    Windows 10 <graphics card name/type> can't upgrade
    Windows 10 <graphics card name/type> upgrade fails
    Windows 10 <graphics card name/type>

    in particular Resolve Windows 10 upgrade errors - there are many links there including how to identify error messages.

    Absolute basics:
    - at least enough free space on C: equal to your Windows folder + free working space
    - uninstall any AV or security software
    - disconnect any unnecessary peripherals

    Run chkdsk c: /scan and if ok SFC /SCANNOW from an admin command prompt.

    Please post the whole of the failure message including any text.
    Post a screenshot of your partition layout using Minitool Partition Wizard (not Disk Management)

    Solved, Replaced hard drive with larger capacity and took PC off the internet and ran Win 10 iso. This made it a new install instead of an upgrade.Also while using Gigabyte graphics card. I’m glad I did not listen to the Microsoft technicians and replace my video card! Thanks for all the help!

    Glad you got it sorted out. If you're happy with a clean install rather than cloning your existing installation and keeping progs and data, that's fine.

    Unfortunately upgrades can fail for all manner of reasons, and the error number is not necessarily helpful, nor even the log files. Sometimes it's some obscure incompatible program or driver, sometimes partition problems, AV, disk corruption or space problems.

    MS tends to follow a script and not look widely.

    Now you have a clean stable situation, start using disk imaging routinely so you can almost always have a way to restore your system - or any disk or partition you've imaged- back to a previous working state. Even if your disk fails (ok, new disk..)

    We recommend Macrium reflect (free) + external storage for disk image sets. The most reliable and best supported, but an older style GUI.
