That is exactly what they are doing in slow ring, and now RP as well.
Installing DCH driver over a Standard driver install. Thus my complaint.
I have no personal preference between Standard or DCH. I can use either. They both work fine for me.
I do have a problem with them downgrading my driver, and breaking my control panel in the process.

I totally understand your pain. That is why I am still on 1809 on my production machine in order to give MS time to iron out their bugs. I did upgrade to 1903 three times and had to roll back because of too many bugs. The real problem with them (bugs) is that it is never easy to find a fix and that can be a real cause for concern regarding the downtime involved.

Here is a very basic clarification of what DCH drivers(Realtek's UAD are also what Microsoft calls DCH) are:
DCH drivers are just the basic hardware drivers found inside a classic system32 software inf files.
Which if not hidden in an installer .exe, can also be installed by right clicking and selecting install.
What is also install are the .cat files needed.
Since Nvidia hides their inf's inside the exe installer, here is an example after opening with 7-Zip:
Then OEM's(including Nvidia) can make change in and to their UI's for which parts of the driver will be used, and how it will be used.
This way you won't have to go check your laptop or motherboards site for updates in the future for the OEM information infused drivers. All the OEM has to do is update to the Microsoft store, and the hardware manufacturer just updates the driver portion.
Example for Nvidia drivers:

OEM laptop manufacturer updates the potion for Max-Q certification from Nvidia by adjusting fan curves for the new drivers.
The OEM can also setup a switch for G-Sync in it's UI if it has a G-Sync certified screen.
For "normal" graphics" card owners, the advantage will eventually be no more going to Nvidia site for the latest driver, if they get off their butts and start uploading to Microsoft catalog faster, and a simple update search in Windows update will install the newest ones(just like it does in Linux) or checking in device manager...
This is still relatively new, so it is probably gonna take a couple of years, till all companies get it right.
In this latest CU yesterday it installed 419.67 with very poor graphics. I had 440.52 installed, but MS removed it.
Interesting Josey, as the latest standard release is 436.48 from Nvidia . You could d/l it from thier site and boot to safe mode use DDU and uninstall your existing version, then boot back to desktop and install the newer version. Disconnect your internet so MS does not try to install older release.
I just reinstalled 440.52. This driver is better than the GRD 436.48. It works foe me. Yes I have been using DDU and installing drivers from Nvidia for many years, I know the process but this 440.52 at least for me is better on my eyes and I don't get prompts from MS any more. I am in The RP so one has to put up with some stuff but I will not let MS ruin my eyesight anymore than it is. I did not used to Disco from the Net but know I see that you have to.
