I have just noticed that when I have a red background showing on my laptop screen, there is a thin line running down the middle to left side.
Does this look like it is an issue with the screen itself?

I was recently given an old 21" iMac with El Capitan OS X with a red line vertically about 4-5 inches in from the right edge, doesn't seem to affect programs but it does affect any background chosen except red. It's not bad enough to throw in the landfill.
Bad or dead pixels a physical line straight across on either axis usually means its been damaged like someone punched the screen or it got dropped or something of this nature. There is no coming back from that unless you get a new screen, it could also be a problem deeper inside.
That image is not relaying anything and its hard to see i think i can see it slightly on each edge of the photo but its hard to tell.
Try cleaning your screen you would be surprised but rule this out lol you can also try applying pressure on the area to bring the pixels back if they are intermittent in nature they can come back from doing this and then also using an app for dead pixels like UDPixel its a long shot but you can at least try nothing to lose.
This is coming first hand i used to work with pixel LED screens for installations, billboards etc its the same concept except on those screen its easier to diagnose because the pixels are quite big.
