Received my new HP Pro desktop, and find this computer doesn't have a HDMI port. Only a VGA one. So, what type of cable will be needed? Seems I need a cable with VGA male on one end and HDMI male on the other end for it to work.
Is this the way to go, or do I need something else to get the monitor to display?
My 4-year-old ASUS computer has a VGA port and a DVI port. The VGA is 15-pin but of importance is what the monitor has. My 21.5" has both but the 27" ASUS monitor I was given a few years ago has VGA, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort [which is why I've kept it], pressing a button on the monitor chooses between the port desired. From Amazon, and they state it is a 2 year old model. The specifications show it doesn't have a HDMI port...front or rear, but has a VGA port. My LD 32" monitor has the HDMI port, but no VGA port. So, I've found on Amazon there is a cable with VGA male end and other end has at HDMI male plug. I think this is the cable I must use to get the display on the monitor.
That's nice but your computer is not the norm. The OP said his new computer only has a VGA port. That doesn't make sense. I have to know the model number of the computer to believe it.
To get back to VGA. You can't just get a VGA to HDMI cable. VGA is analog while HDMI is digital. You need an electronic adapter in between to make the conversion.
BTW, I have an Asus VE228H 21.5" LED monitor. It also has VGA, DVI, and HDMI ports. I bought it specifically to work with all of my computer even the really old ones.
Some computers have DP (DisplayPort) ports, but no HDMI ports. If this is the case, and the monitor doesn´t have a DP port, use a DP to HDMI converter and a HDMI to HDMi cable.
According to the specs that computer has VGA and DVI ports. Forget the VGA and use the DVI one. Just get a simple DVI to HDMI cable from Amazom.
Both DVI and HDMI are digital and electrically the same. That means all you need is simple cable with the correct connector on each end. Much better than the VGA to HDMI adapter with cables. I have seen some people have problems with making them work reliability.
The only real difference between DVI and HDMI is that DVI doesn't support audio while HDMI does.That means if you connect to a DVI port you have to connect the audio separately if you need it.
BTW, the listing is misleading in saying it was first available in 2019. That is when the computer probably came off lease and was refurbished for resale. It could easily be 5 years old.
