    Same thing reworded...

How to force Windows to Rediscover Monitors

Whenever Windows sees a new monitor it adds it to the end of the current configuration. However, this doesn't change the current configuration. To force Windows to configure monitors properly if the numbers aren't correct, you need to delete these two registry keys, and then add the monitors one at a time.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Connectivity

In Nvidia Control Panel, set it so there is only one display, the LG E1940, then...

    1. Unhook the HDMI cable from the back of the vid card.
    2. Delete both of those registry keys.
    3. Reboot the computer.
    4. Now, plug the HDMI cable back into the vid card.

Hopefully the LG E1940 will now be the #1 display, and hopefully, that will fix the problem you are having when you clone the displays.

IF you can't see anything on the LG E1940, then just plug the HDMI cable back in, because the image will be on the TV. :/

Deleting those registry keys, won't hurt anything. They are just how Windows 10 remembers which display is #1 and which is #2.

Ok so tried that method and the monitor only stay No.1 when i unplug the HDMI, i deleted the registries rebooted then put the HDMI back and the TV automatically goes back to No.1again

I've never seen the reason to clone a display. I WANT them to show different things.
I clone it cos the TV is in another room and i cant see what's going on the other screen if i extend it only so clone it to have both screens running if im watching films so can leave the PC running in the other room etc

I guess ill have to put up with it for now and unplug the TV.

Well I guess you could try a splitter, since you want the same image on both screens.
    Something like this maybe...

    Amazon.com

I would probably call ASUS first and see what they think about a splitter like this.

I'm still not sure if the pre-desktop screen(s) will show up on both.

I guess another option would be to just leave Nividia Control Panel only set to one screen.
After you're on the desktop you can turn the 2nd screen on in a few seconds.

I phoned ASUS and they couldn't help over the phone so said i had to email them which i have done so no idea as to when may if at all get a reply.
I bought the DVI-D to VGA adapter from Amazon which didnt work butill se if i get a refund for it and may try the splitter one you suggested if i get no reply from ASUS.

Like you said i can either just leave the one monitor selected until i need to use both or just remove the HDMI from the TV.
TBH its only an issue when i was trying to get into BIOS and doubt will be many occasions where i need to boot directly to monitor first so may just leave well alone, it was only because my old ancient card could set it up this way that i was used to it.

Thanks for all your help :)

Just had this reply from ASUS, does it sound like it would work as don't really want to be messing about with taking battery out and CMOS reset if it could mess up any other settings?

Can you disconnect the HDMI cable

And the do a CMOS clear

In this case I recommend you make a CMOS reset of the BIOS by taking out the CMOS battery for 3-5 minutes while the PSU is unplugged. While the power cord from the PSU is still unplugged, press the power button down for 30 seconds to power discharge the unit. Then place the CMOS battery back in, plug in the PSU and try again.

I have no idea if that will help, but give it a try.

    Disconnect HDMI cable
    Turn off comp
Turn switch on rear of power supply off, but leave the power supply plugged in
Hold power switch on case, down for about 6 seconds
Take out CMOS battery and wait for 3-4 minutes (will set BIOS to defaults)
    Replace battery
Turn switch on power supply back on
    Boot the computer.

My guess here is that they misunderstood something in your email or over the phone.
But they ARE the motherboard manufacturer, so who knows.

    /edit

On the Tools tab in the BIOS you can save a profile (all your BIOS settings).
If you have set things in the BIOS you might want to save to a profile, so if the battery thing doesn't help....you can just load the profile to get any settings you've made... back.

As suspected nothing has changed, as soon as the TV gets plugged in it switched to No.1 Priority.
