Can I force laptop to use ext Monitor at boot?

Have a Dell Inspiron with a crushed display, not a wink of viewable image. It will output to ext monitor via VGA (haven’t tried HDMI yet) only under Windows control after User Profile loads. But I need to make Setup changes in BIOS. Is there some way to force default to VGA at bootup?

I am running Windows 10 v2004 if it matters

The times I had to do it for similar reasons on an HP and a Dell it worked by using the keyboard toggle of the Fn key and another F key with colored symbol representing a monitor or two monitors. Since it's hardware related it should retain that setting. The key combination toggles the LCD panel, the port or both at the same time, is a good feature for those using a projector for an audience like in a church and company seminars.

    I agree with Berton.

I have just played around doing this with my Dell Inspiron [7779].

1 After you restart the computer, just tap the F2 key every second or so for the time you think it takes to complete a boot. It will be in the Bios but you won't see that yet.

2 Then, when you think bootup must have completed, press the Fn+F8 key or the F8 key on its own*** [the change monitor key] once only. The Bios should now show up on your external display.

    Notes
    - *** I had to use Fn+F8 because I had my Bios set that way. You might want to change your setting.

    - I also played around with trying to use the Fn+F8 key before the F2 key [i.e. switch displays before calling for the Bios] but I kept failing. I imagine that I was simply too late for the F2 key to have any effect doing it this way round.

    All the best,
    Denis
