External VGA Monitor detected but displays black screen

I'm having a problem with an external VGA monitor connected to my Win10 home PC. When I plug in the monitor (to VGA port), it is detected but the display blinks on and goes black immediately. I have to unplug and re-plug up to 12 times and finally the monitor comes on and stays on until the power option tells the monitors to go blank. Then I have to do the whole unplug/re-plug thing again to get it to display the screen. Seems to me it's a driver problem. I uninstalled the Monitor drivers (not the Display Driver). When the device is detected, two instances of "Generic PnP Monitor" drivers are installed. An alternative driver would be the AL1916w driver but I'm not sure how to install it. And this may not be the solution anyway.

You may be right about the driver not being the solution.

However, to install it (Product support), unzip it to a folder. Right click on AL1916W.inf. and select "install".

It's more than 10 years old, but it isn't really a driver, so it may still work.

    Best of luck.

I installed AL1916w but it is not the solution. External monitor still not displaying anything until I unplug and plug many times.
And AL1916w is not showing in Device Manager. If I get a new monitor, would that work better? I'd hate to buy a new monitor and have the same issue.

Sounds more like an intermittent VGA cable, check your cables and VGA sockets.

I have tried everything including cables and tried HDMI to VGA and my HDMI port works and it still does not show.
