Pc taking too long to shurdown-Fall Update

Since updating to Fall Update my pc is taking too long to shutdown.Sometimes i see shutdown spinning dots icon for ages ..pc monitor, keyboard is shutdown ok but pc power button is still on.

I have enabled/disabled Hybrid shutdown, checked Power Management settings are ok,have not got any background scanning on and on occassions see random BSOD messages with different errors listed.

Have checked for any suspicious activity on pc ...everything ok..all drivers are up to date etc.

I had no problem with Windows 10 Creators update as shutdown took approx 30 seconds...with Fall update timed shutdown to approxiamately 2 minutes.

Is this shutdown issue a problem with Fall update..i do not want to want go through Pc reset/refresh again...as there is no guarantee this will work.

Is there a software shutdown program available to try that members know off ?

    Thank you

    Hi treblefree.

Please disable Windows Fast Startup and test. I know issue is with shutdown. It is the shutdown that prepares for Startup.

You may be able to shave some more seconds off that.

Shutting down from the Start menu's power button has a new behaviour in Fall Creators Update. Any registered apps that were open when you shut down will reopen on the next boot. Apps that can reopen include MS Office, Task Manager, IE, Chrome and Wordpad. Apps that don't include Edge, Firefox and Notepad. Shut down from the command line using the shutdown command, or click on the Desktop and use Alt+F4 to shut down, that way registered apps won't reopen, skipping the time taken to save the data necessary for their restart. See...

on a restart Fall Creators Update reopens apps from before

There is now a Tutorial to add a context menu to shut down without apps restarting.
