Is this issue still not fixable?

AFAIK, the registry hacks no longer work, the BAT file work-around doesn't work, the location work-around doesn't work, and the only thing that seems to be offered at present is the app-mode color change---which is evidently the only official "fix" to this problem.

I just got bumped to 1903 and now Microsoft has brought me closer to the breaking point. I would've kept the app mode to dark but now apparently that makes context menus dark as well.... which is still bad design (i.e. not a solution).

I don't mind having more options, I just don't like being forced to use one config over the other.

The only reason I bothered with that in the first place is because MS forced us all to have the Taskbar Search box as white.

I detest that decision and I fail to see why I can't change just that and not involve anything else.
    [END RANT]

Does anyone know of a fix or solution for this dreaded mess? All I want is to revert the color scheme back to its default.

Well, this is what I do:
    - I never use dark mode.
    - I colour backgrounds of most i.e. 'standard' dialogue backgrounds

I hide the search box (rt click taskbar, search, hidden) - so it doesn't take up room.
If I want to use it, Win key + S

I use Open Shell start menu (which has various skins). The search box is the same default colour I use elsewhere. Search there is also configurable (web/files/start menu etc).

Sorry, not an answer directly- but a way of evading some of MS's vagaries.

    Thanks

    @dalchina
You needn't apologize. You're the only person that's bothered to post anything so far...

At this point, I'm seriously considering just removing the box all together which isn't ideal for me, but heck.

Wasn't aware of that app, however, so that is another option. Thanks!

Just for completeness for anyone looking:

This tutorial will no longer work starting with Windows 10 version 1903.
