My laptop computer running windows 10 crashed. I had an old computer backup dating from Oct 2015. I ran backup and my computer is now working. I am still running windows 10 but the version is back to Oct 2015. So when I run windows update to get all of the security updates up until this date (4/28/17). Windows can not update due to
0x800705b4. can you please offer me a solution to fix this issue?

Try running the Windows Update Troubleshooter. for 1607 find it in Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Troubleshooting.
(In the Creators Update this has been moved to Settings > Update & security > Troubleshoot.)
Oct 2015 is from before the Fall Update to 1511. You would be running the original version, build 10240 (run Winver to check). This version is now beyond its support life.
Windows 10 version 1507 will no longer receive security updates
Apparently 0x800705b4 is a timeout error, it could be that MS have pulled the updates for this version. Your best bet would be to upgrade to a supported version. If you have install media for 1511 or 1607 they would do, but if you have to use the Media Creation Tool to make the install .iso or USB, then you'll get the Creators Update 1703.
Download Windows 10 ISO File
Mount the .iso (or insert the USB) then run its Setup from within Windows to start the upgrade. You can keep all your files and apps.
Can I just download the update to my computer and run it, or do I HAVE to download it to a USB drive first?
You could use the Update Assistant to 'update now', it's the first option on https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10
But as the download size will be about the same as using the MCT to download the .iso it makes little difference which you choose. I prefer to download the install media first using the MCT (use its 'create media for another PC' option). That way I get to keep the install media for later use, should I need it.
You don't have to download to a USB, you have the option to download to a .iso file too. This can be mounted as a virtual drive by double-clicking on it. You can then run setup from this virtual drive.
So what you are saying, is I can download it to my computer as an ISO and still double click on it to run it from inside windows? can i download it to both (usb and Iso?)
Yes, the .iso can be mounted and the upgrade run without the need to burn it to a DVD or a USB first. In fact, you'd need a dual-layer DVD to burn the current .iso - it's just a little too large to fit on a single layer DVD.
The MCT offers to make either the .iso or the USB. Most here recommend just mounting the .iso and running setup from the virtual drive.
In theory, it should be possible to put the .iso on a USB using tools like Rufus, but I've not tried that myself. I prefer to use the MCT make the USB so I can use it to upgrade several machines.
