Black Screen, automatic repair loop and AVG drivers

    Hi,

I started having a problem with my desktop. After I logged in, my screen was a dark grey, no icons, no wallpaper. My windows icons and my cursor were flashing.

I restarted my computer a few times and nothing changed. Then It started the automatic repair tool and it stayed that way in a freaking infinite loop.

I tried many things, even deactived it with: "bcdedit /set {default} recoveryenabled No"

Then is showed me this error:

"Your PC/device needs to be repaired
Operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors

    File: WINDOWS/system32/DRIVERS/avgmfx64.sys
    Error code: 0xc000007b"

I tried to put windows 10 on a usb, but it doesn't work because I already have windows 10 installed.

I would like to know if there is an other solution apart from reinstalling everything and loosing all my programs?

Hello and welcome to TenForums :)

Firstly boot to advanced startup options using option 6 in the following tutorial: Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10

Then Open a command prompt: Open Command Prompt at Boot in Windows 10

Then run system file checker: Run SFC Command in Windows 10

This should repair any system files that have got corrupted.

Thank you! Alright so I tried the command prompt "sfc /scannow", but it tells me "Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation"

    I am on "Administrator: X:/Windows/system32/cmd.exe"

Did you follow the procedure exactly as described in option 1? Your command would look like this:

    sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=D:\windows

where C and D are found from the diskpart > list volume command to identify your system partition drive and your Windows 10 partition.

Hi, before trying to repair Windows, check your disk. Something caused what you experienced.
Download Kyhi's boot DVD/flash drive from the top of the Software and Apps section, boot your PC from that- it will give you a Win 10 style interface.

Then run HDtune, which is provided on the disk.

If good, proceed as above. Else post back. Thanks.

I will try what you suggest because no matter what sfc command I do I always end up with a message that windows resource protection could not start the repair service.

The diskpart and list volume command dooesn't give me any information has to where windows 10 is. Wish I could send a picture of what I did :S

With that disk there is also a boot repair tool provided as part of Macrium Reflect you can try.

However, your initial report of a missing driver rings faint bells- when you've checked your disk (you can also use file explorer when booted from Kyhi's to examine it) try searching the forum for such a report to see if there is anything useful.

Alright, so I've managed to use Kyhi's software and the DHtune, it discovered 4 errors, but there's no option to fix them. The "sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\windows" command found integrity violation but no way to fix them.

I found the avgmfx64.sys file, so it's likely corrupted and not missing...can I just delete it? Or try to put AVG remover on a flash drive and use it to delete every AVG components?

I could still tried Macrium Reflect tonight, but the more it goes, the more I think the only solution is to reinstall windows 10 and loose all my programs

Please post a screenshot of the HDTune errors.
Also download and run Hard disk sentinel (trial) or failing that Macrorit Diskscanner (free) and post the result.T

There's no point proceeding with anything until we know if your disk is ok.

You could also try creating a base image of windows (use option 'Windows Backup' to capture ALL OS partitions) with Macrium to an external drive.

If that fails with a CRC error, your drive is almost certainly a problem.
