Troubleshooting a Windows 10 Enterprise (LTSC) VM
I'm currently running a Windows 10 Enterprise (LTSC - 2021) VM with the following:
- 24 vCPUs (Intel Xeon E7-8870)
- 32GB PC3-10600R DDR3-1333 ECC
- nVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan Xp
- Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Rx
- Inateck KU8212 (USB 3.2)
It's been running for a few years now, and the only times I've experienced BSODs (until now) were when benchmarking with the GPU overclocked (oc applied in MSI Afterburner). As a result, I ultimately stopped overclocking the GPU. I've been able to run Halo Infinite and other games on this VM in the past, with very few issues. When I mention issues, I mean minor things -- like controller compatibility (I'm using a Steam controller). Things that can be fixed by switching to an Xbox controller, or changing controller/keymap settings in-game.
Recently, I've been encountering an error when trying to open newer games. I recently tried out PalWorld and Valheim, and both of them cause the VM to bugcheck. The BSOD that shows up every time looks practically identical:
Stop Code: TDR_VIDEO_FAILURE
What failed: nvlddmkm.sys
I've tried runningandCode:sfc /scannow, to check and repair system files/image. However, both commands don't appear to give any warnings or errors. They reach 100 percent and exit without a hitch. I've also tried reinstalling (even with DDU) and updating graphics drivers, to no avail.Code:dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
I can't really tell what may be going wrong at this point, and would like to know what other troubleshooting steps you think I should try (to make sure I'm not skipping anything). At this point, I'm wondering if I'm just running into this because of the age of my system (hoping it isn't hardware failure). I'm willing to post logs and memory dumps for analysis, if required. I'm trying to avoid registry edits if possible, but am open to trying it if such is truly warranted.
